Ash introduces himself to Mouse Honrada during their computer class. he’s noticed her checking out his posters for Spectrum Club and encourages her to join. Mouse isn’t a big fan of groups, but Ash says its a safe space and they have great snacks. Mouse is convinced, and he invites her to join him for lunch. Their lunch is pleasant but turns eventful when Imogen Adams storms in, proclaiming Karen Beasley to be a raging bitch. She challenges her position as Spirit Queen candidate by deciding to run against her. She finishes her triumphant speech by storming out of the cafeteria, stealing a fry as she does. Ash watches in both awe and admiration. After school, Ash sends Mouse a friend request on Discord.[1]

Ash later attends the Spirit Week Dance, though he accidentally scares Mouse by saying hello to her. She's nervous about the crowds as she has social anxiety. He invites her outside to get high. They vape together as he's impressed over her being a natural. She tries to play it cool but begins coughing, admitting it is her first time. He promises that next time they'll try gummies. He asks why she calls herself Mouse. Her real name is Minnie, but her moms call her Mouse. Partly because her family is Disney obsessed, and partly because they want to keep her young forever. She has a childhood trauma that is too tragic for tonight.

They return to the dance and join the other couples during a slow song. However, Tabby collects the girls when she sees Imogen standing by herself. They bring Imogen to the dance floor and the girls dance happily while their dates watch for a moment, before joining in. Principal Clanton takes the stage to announce Millwood High's Spirit Queen. He calls Imogen Adams to the stage to accept her crown. A spotlight finds her and the crowd cheers loudly. She ascends the staircase to the stage. Clanton places the crown atop her head. Faran sees Karen in the rafters and nudges Tabby, who in turn, gets the attention of the other Liars. They try to scream for Imogen to look up. Shawn, Ash, and Chip get involved too. Karen smiles maniacally from the rafters as she inches the bucket closer to the edge. The next thing anyone sees, is Karen falling to her death with a loud squishing noise on the stage below. The incident causes everyone to flee in different directions.[2]

Despite the craziness of the dance night, and the drama that begins to surround Mouse and her friends, Ash still encourages Mouse to come to a Spectrum meeting as it's all about inclusivity. If she doesn't want to, they can still hang out on Halloween. He usually goes to a midnight screening at The Orpheum, but they aren't showing one this year. He has ideas of what to dress up as and invites her to crash a party with him. Her mom's never let her go out on Halloween as it's too dangerous. He offers to come over to her house and hang with her moms, but she would never inflict that on him. She might be able to sneak out on Halloween.[3]

On October 30th, Mouse shows Ash a flyer for Imogen's Halloween party. He thought her moms wouldn’t let her out. She responds she still needs to ask them but wants to assert independence and date. Ash offers to pick her up but she offhandedly decides to meet him there.

By Halloween night, the party begins its swing with Imogen at the door accepting cover. Ash, who is already at the party, texts Mouse to ask where she is as she's late. When Mouse does arrive, Ash happily greets her and the exchange compliments on each others outfits, though she's insecure as she forgot her mask. Ash explains she doesn’t need her mask as she’s beautiful. He said he thought she stood her up. Mouse tries to explain where she’s been, but he figures out she was dealing with childhood trauma. She quickly explains she wants to deal with it and asks if he has any gummies. Ash and Mouse are on a high upstairs, which leads to their first kiss. She tells him to stay there while she goes gets snacks.[4]

Once back at school, Ash talks to Mouse at the lockers, as she didn't text him back after Halloween. She apologizes as her moms were pissed that she missed curfew. He wonders if they'll ever let her out again, and she thinks they will, as they're working on trust. She asks what he has in mind. He wants to go bowling with her tomorrow night and she agrees, trying to act cool. He stands close to her, saying it's a date, before walking off. Mouse barely contains her glee as she twirls off.

They head to Millwood Lanes for bowling. He bowls a strike and helps guide her into throwing, though she misses a spare. They have fun and he twirls her at one point as they laugh. Mouse sees Steve a lane down and Ash remarks that he got a spare that time. She's suddenly starving and asks him to get nachos, so he walks off. Mouse confronts Steve, and Ash walks over to ask who she's talking with, and Steve introduces himself as Mouse's dad. She plays along but tells Ash that it's a long story. She's not feeling very well and wants to get out of there, so he helps her leave.[5]

The next day at school, Ash talks to Mouse in the empty computer lab, where he invites her to the carnival. Her moms would never let her go. He asks what's so bad about a carnival. She admits that nothing is bad about them, but something happened to her the last time she was at the carnival, in 2012. She was five-years-old and got separated from her moms outside the Funhouse. A man came up to her, offered her cotton candy, and led her away. She wasn't scared until she saw her moms with a security guard. Elodie screamed out for her daughter and the man ran away. He was a stranger who was never caught. Now, every year they rent a cabin and leave Millwood over carnival weekend. Ash is sorry she went through that and hugs her.

Students, parents, and everyone in-between rallies at the Millwood Fall Carnival. Mouse and Ash approach the carousel, which is her favorite ride. He's glad her mom changed her mind and let her out of the house. She is too, not that she gave Elodie much choice, as she still needs Elodie to get real with her. In the meantime, she wants to have fun at the carnival with her boyfriend. Ash questions her statement of boyfriend, which embarrasses her. He quickly assures her that he would love to be her boyfriend. She smiles wide and kisses him.

A ominously watches the carnival from a high balcony. Mouse and Ash decide to check out the Mystic Maze of Mirrors. They have fun with their mutual difficulties navigating mazes, bumping into the mirrors as they pass by. Their joy quickly ends wen Mouse sees A in the maze. He doesn't see A and questions what's wrong. She wants to get the fuck out of there. She begins to panic, seeing him in more mirrors. The lights flicker. She turns a corridor and screams at the sight of A, who runs towards her. Ash tries to talk with her, but she sees A again and takes off running. She runs into the mirror and begins banging it. She screams when Ash grabs her arms, trying to comfort her. She sees an EXIT sign, which begins to reflect in all the different mirrors. A continues to run through the maze, with Mouse panicking even more. She backs up into the exit door and escapes with Ash holding her hand. They run into Elodie, who needs to talk with Mouse alone. It's time to tell her the truth.[6]

The Tuesday of Thanksgiving week, Mouse tells Ash that her parents still aren't speaking. He invites her to Friendsgiving but she tells him to feel free to lie that her parents are messed up than hers. All families have something going on, but his parents have always been cool. They adopted him when he was a baby, and she apologizes as didn't know. It's okay as he's lucky. They've always been supporting and loving, including when he came out as trans. She asks if he knew the identity of his birth parents if he would see them. He would, even though it's risky, he'd want to know who they are. Mouse goes home and digs out her old girl scouts shirt.

The school hosts a blood drive on Wednesday, and Mouse checks on Ash who says he's fine. She thinks he looks cute with his sleeve rolled up like a greaser. She's weird but he loves it.[7]

The Monday after Thanksgiving, Mouse and Ash sit at the fountain outside of Millwood High. She apologizes for not texting him back. Last night, she had this traumatizing "come to Jesus" with one of her moms. Then she got home and her other mom asked her to set her up on lesbian dating apps, which was somehow even more traumatizing. Ash takes in the information, asking if they're done with each other. She hopes not, but doesn't see how then can work things out when they refuse to be in the same room together. He has an idea. Her family loves Disney movies, so he suggests that she "Parent Trap" them to force a face-to-face meeting.

Mouse and Ash successfully "Parent Trap" Elodie and Shirley at Pinball Pizza. Noa delivers their pizza and relays that refills are on the house tonight. The group starts preparing to eat. Elodie bluntly asks him if he he feels scared as a young trans man in Millwood. He nervously bites his pizza. Once back in her room, Mouse facetimes Ash and profusely apologizes for her mom's intense questions. He agrees they were intense but he thinks that her heart was in the right place. She sighs over it being constant dysfunction. He asks if she connected with her dad yet, and she did, over Thanksgiving. Ash is okay with going bowling just the three of them sometime.

The next night, Mouse, Steve, and Ash go bowling together. Steve tells Ash he's a good guy, and he's glad his little girl is dating someone like him. Ash thanks him, adding that Mouse is a rock star. Steve can't take credit for that, as her moms are responsible. He's just hoping to make up for lost time. He gets a phone call that he has to take, but tells the kids to pick out their bowling balls. They're preparing to bowl when Steve starts to leave. She asks if her dad is going somewhere. He emotionally tells her not to call him that. He has to leave right fucking now.

Wednesday morning, Ash talks to Shirley and Elodie at Millwood Pawn, since Mouse isn't returning his calls or texts. They had a crazy night with her dad at the bowling alley. Elodie didn't know she was in contact with her father. Ash has met Steve a few times now. Elodie insists that isn't Mouse's father's name. She starts tracking Mouse's location, which upsets Shirley but also relieves her. They head out to the Red Ranch Motel. Ash bangs on the Red Ranch Motel door and Mouse answers, relieved to see him. Her mom's question why she's there and dressed like that. Elodie sees Steve sobbing on the couch over a photo album and recognizes him Mouse admits that her friend Steve got some bad news about his daughter Rachel. They were playing pretend, both of them. But now the game's over. She hugs her moms and apologizes to them.[8]

Everyone gathers at the Haworthe house for Christmas. They dance, laugh, and converse, with Kelly meeting Baby Adams for the first time. Everyone sits around the fire to reveal their favorite Christmas movies ever. Marjorie wants to share something with all of them. She's going to check into rehab but just wanted to spend the holidays with Noa before going in. Noa is so proud of her mom. Elodie invites Noa to stay with them until her mom gets better. Tabby chimes in that she's welcome here too, as the more the merrier. Corey assures Marjorie that they'll take care of her. She includes herself, as she's staying in Millwood permanently. Henry whispers to Faran that it'll make it harder to sneak into her room. Corey heard that, calling him Prince Charming. Faran tells him they'll figure it out. Since everyone is making an announcement, Shirley and Elodie are going to couple's therapy next week. So, no more Red Ranch Motel for her. Mouse chimes in that she'll never go there alone, as she has everything she needs right here. Ash asks if they can finally confirm that Mash is canon. She looks around the room with a huge smile before kissing him in response. Shawn and Noa kiss, followed by Kelly and Greg Mantzoukas, Henry and Faran, and finally, Imogen rests her head on Tabby's shoulder.[9]
