Ezra Fitz (born Fitzgerald) is a major supporting character in the Pretty Little Liars television series on Freeform. He is portrayed by Ian Harding.

Ezra is a former English teacher at Rosewood High School, the current owner of The Brew and an author.

Biography

Ezra Fitzgerald was born to the wealthy Fitzgerald's, a mother Dianne and an unnamed father. He is the older brother of Wesley. Dianne and Mr. Fitzgerald were divorced when Ezra was 12—citing that it wasn't the infidelity, but something else that ruined their marriage.

Ezra Fitz, born as Ezra Fitzgerald, comes from an extremely wealthy family from which he is almost entirely estranged—having both rejected his existing and future inheritance, and changed his last name from Fitzgerald to Fitz. At age 12, his parents got divorced—citing that it wasn't the infidelity, but something else that ruined their marriage.

In the summer after high school graduation, Ezra dated Maggie Cutler and they became pregnant. Dianne believed a child would ruin the life she wanted for Ezra, so she paid Maggie to leave down and have an abortion. Maggie took the money, but ultimately had her son. Ezra remained in the dark about the child's birth. Dianne's interference in his life spurred Ezra to reject his inheritance and family name. He changed his surname to "Fitz" and decided to pursue teaching.

Ezra moved to Rosewood, Pennsylvania where he attended Hollis College where he graduated with a Master of Arts in Education. In 2008, before his graduation, Ezra met the mysterious Alison DiLaurentis, who captivated him. They went on one date before he learned she had lied about her age, being 15 instead of 18. When Alison went missing a year later, Ezra became obsessed with gaining information about Alison for a book he wanted to write. Now having graduated from college, Ezra took a faculty position as an English professor at Rosewood High School.

He became well-liked by his fellow faculty members and by his students, especially Aria Montgomery, whom he had an unexpected romantic relationship with despite their age difference and him being her professor. He resigned from Rosewood High to avoid being arrested for dating his student, and was teaching at Hollis, until Byron Montgomery had him fired after learning about Ezra and Aria's relationship. Ezra eventually became a substitute teacher at Rosewood High school, then became a full-time teacher again. Aria regretfully ended their relationship because it was becoming too complicated.

In Season 4, Aria and Ezra get back together while Aria was still dating Jake. Aria tells Ezra he's "the one" and always has been and breaks up with Jake. She's not ready to tell her friends yet, so they keep it a secret, only for the girls to spy them together at the end of "Shadow Play". It was revealed in "Free Fall" that he had a brief relationship with Alison DiLaurentis and has been tracking her and The Liars in order to write a "true crime novel" and figure out who 'A' is. A heartbroken Aria then cuts all ties with him, despite Ezra's protests that he loves her.

In "A is for Answers", Ezra gets non-fatally shot in New York by someone dressed as 'A', who is later revealed to be Shana. After Ezra recovers, Aria finally realizes from Ezra's heroism that he does love her and they make up. In Welcome to the Dollhouse, Ezra helps Caleb and Toby attempt to track down the liars after they are kidnapped by A while being escorted to prison, and successfully rescues them.

In Season 6 Ezra reunites with Aria after the time jump. Their reunion is halted when Ezra is suspected by the Liars of being Charlotte's Killer, but are eventually convinced he is innocent. Afterwards, Ezra decides to propose to Aria, who accepts. However, their relationship is strained again when Ezra's old girlfriend, Nicole Gordon, returns and Ezra pays attention to her. After some arguments, Ezra agrees to leave Nicole behind and resumes focusing on planning his wedding with Aria. When Aria found out that she was infertile and can't have any biological children, Ezra ultimately accepted this and their relationship prevailed. They married after unmasking A.D and saved Spencer. The couple headed off on their honeymoon with plans to adopt a newborn when they returned.

Mona saunters into to class and asks if she's late while calling Ezra "Mr Fritz". He simply tells her to take her seat. Aria walks in after and drops the permission slip on Ezra's desk showing that it has been denied. She then takes her seat and they glance at each other longingly realizing the only chance they had to be together just slipped through their fingers.

Can You Hear Me Now?

Fitz4

Ezra takes a bike ride through town and gives a wave to Aria and her friends, who are checking him out. At school, he invites Aria to dinner at his place.

During dinner, they discuss her parents' marital problems. He mentions that before his parents were divorced, they had come to an arrangement where they saw other people. He suggests maybe there is more to her parents' relationship than she is aware. They argue and Aria leaves angry.

The bell rings, and Ezra begins his English class. An awkward class discussion ensues over a character's hypocrisy in the assigned novel they are reading, "To Kill a Mockingbird". When one student named Sperling speaks up, Ezra jumps down his throat, accusing him of not attempting to understand the book, while defending Aria's statement. Eventually, he comes to his senses, but Spencer and Emily seem to pick up on the awkward tension.

Later, Aria heads to Ezra's apartment in a fury. She blasts him for the way he handled the class discussion, snappily defending her in a way that people could detect something amiss. She also goes off about the suggestion that her parents have an arrangement, telling him that he doesn't understand the situation. But Ezra defers to Aria and doesn't try to argue. Instead, he tells her that he would like to get to know her better and closes the door.

Reality Bites Me

Fb

Ezra self-deprecatingly invites Aria to a poetry reading, where he will be reading a short story, joking how if it doesn't go well, he might have to hurt himself; it could get ugly.

PLL105-00488

After his piece, Ezra is surprised to find that his old college friend Hardy is also in attendance. The three then hang out playing darts, eating French fries, and sharing college stories with Aria. Hardy is quick to pick up on Aria and Ezra’s scandalous relationship, privately warning Ezra that it could bring him more harm than good down the line.

Later, Ezra takes Hardy's comments to heart; he mocks Aria that she will find out what college guys are like when she gets to college after she asks if all college guys are like Hardy. They discuss their relationship, whether it is right or wrong and if it should continue. Aria convinces Ezra that when they're alone with no one to judge, it feels right. Ezra asks her to stay, but Aria has to get home, promising to cook him dinner tomorrow night.

Fitz (1)

Turns out Aria accidentally left her phone at his place. He looked at it because it kept buzzing and unknowingly intercepted a message from "A". He thinks "A" is a friend Aria confided in about their affair and when she shows up at his door with groceries in hand, he quickly puts an end to their relationship, saying she's obviously not mature enough to handle it.

There's No Place Like Homecoming

Fitz7

Aria tries to talk to him at school, but he is unwilling to hear her out, claiming to be late for a staff meeting. At the homecoming dance the next day, Ezra is in charge of the bean bag toss booth. Aria happens to be assigned to the same booth. She takes the opportunity to try to explain about the text. Aria tells him she didn't tell anyone and "A" is not a friend, but doesn't seem to be getting through and walks away.

Fitz8

Later, Ezra sees Aria dancing with Sean and walks away looking disappointed. She follows him down the hall away from the dance. She tells him that she knows it's over, but she can't stand the idea of him hating her. Ezra says he could never hate her. He regrets not being able to take her on real dates in public and is afraid he's asking too much of her. He admits to only coming tonight in hopes of seeing her. He even got a haircut for her. Things are left unresolved as they go their separate ways.

Fitz9

Unbeknownst to Aria, Ezra takes a trip to New York to possibly find another job. He returns during the SAT, which has been postponed due to bad weather. He walks in on Aria and Noel in the middle of an intimate guitar session in the music room, which turns icy upon Ezra's arrival. Noel heads back to the library and he and Aria speak in private. He explains he went to New York to deal with his "issues" and had time to think about the consequences of their relationship. He says things need to change. Aria says they already have and walks out holding back tears. Later, Ezra chats with Ella in a school storage closet. She says she is glad Aria has an adult in her life she can admire, causing Ezra to reevaluate his feelings once again.

Fitz (2)

Ezra watches Aria talk to, then kiss, Noel. He asks if Noel plays football and Aria starts defending Noel, saying he's really smart and loves old movies. Ezra says she is entitled to be with whoever she wants to be with, but he is clearly not thrilled seeing her with someone else.

Fitz10

Aria confronts Ezra over a poem he published entitled B-26. It is clearly about Aria and he never intended for her to see it. She is sick of his mixed signals and angry with him for letting her believe he didn't love her. He tries to tell her he was trying to do the right thing, but she won't have it. Noel catches the tail end of their conversation and asks what's going on. Aria says absolutely nothing is going on and walks out. Ezra asks if Noel has something to say to him, realizing they are probably caught. Noel walks away and Ezra, in a moment of high emotion and frustration, throws the book of poems across the room. Later, Ezra stays late to grade papers. He doesn't realize Noel is there watching him.

Fitz11

The next night, Ezra texts her, "I need to see you". He pulls up in the woods, nearby Mona's birthday party, and Aria gets in his car. He tries to explain why he was looking for a new job. It wasn't to leave her, it was to make it possible for them to be together. When he saw her with Noel, he decided to let it be and give her a chance at a normal relationship. She calls him a jerk and tells him off for making decisions that weren't his to make. He asks her to forgive him. She refuses. He gets closer and asks again. She can't resist him any longer and the two kiss passionately. Little do they know, someone is watching.

Fitz12

The next day, Aria meets Ezra outside his apartment. He spotted the writing on the back of his car that morning and is understandably concerned someone saw them together last night. Aria insists it doesn't mean anything and wipes the writing away with her shirt sleeve. Later, Aria waits for him in his empty classroom. He agrees the writing on the window was probably nothing. They talk about their complicated relationship and discuss whether it would be better had they never seen each other in the bar that first day. Aria admits he makes her miserable sometimes, but not unhappy, and she would not go back and change things if she had the opportunity. He agrees. Ezra wants them to "move forward, together".

Fitz (3)

After English class, Aria admits she knows who is responsible for writing on the car - Noel Kahn. She tells Ezra Noel promised not to say anything about what he saw. However, later that day, Noel tries to extort a higher grade on his essay out of Mr. Fitz, threatening to get the principal involved if he doesn't change the grade from a C to an A. When Ezra next sees Aria, he tells her Noel doesn't seem to be keeping his promise. While discussing this, Jenna enters the room, needing a signature on an absence card. On her way out she says, "sorry to interrupt", as if she may have heard.

Fitz13

Ezra doesn't change the grade and Noel once again threatens him to change it. He continues to say no, until Noel comes extremely close to telling the other students in the class about his relationship with Aria. Coerced, he agrees to take another look. He steps into the hallway and watches Toby being escorted by the cops, then exchanges a look with Aria before walking away. When Noel returns to pick up his A paper, he finds it is still a C and makes it clear he will follow through with his threat.

Fitz14

Aria shows up to Ezra's apartment to find him drinking and looking disheveled. She insists on knowing what happened today. Ezra clasps her hands and says he refuses to change Noel's grade, but whatever happens tomorrow, she has to know how he feels about her. "Even though this doesn't look right, it has always felt right". Aria tenderly touches his face and says, "I love you", then softly kisses him. Later, she calls home and lies about spending the night at Spencer's. He lights a candle and she leans on him on the sofa, both hoping this isn't the last time they'll hold each other.

Fitz15

The next day, Ezra stands in his empty classroom preparing to resign. He exchanges a wistful look with Aria while walking down the hall. The principal, along with a security guard, is escorting Noel to his locker where the stolen answers to 3 midterms are found. Ezra looks beyond relieved and ducks out, not sticking around to give Noel a chance to hurl a single accusation.

Fitz16

Aria's old babysitter, and published author, Simone, comes to Rosewood for a visit. Ella arranges for her to talk to the English classes at Rosewood high. Ella also arranges for her to have coffee with Ezra because he is "very single and very handsome". Ezra reads and enjoys Simone's short story, then meets her for coffee, ruining Aria's plan for them to spend the afternoon together. Aria offers to stick around, but he basically pushes her out the door, making sure she leaves first so no one sees them together.

Fitz17

At the dance-a-thon, Simone and Ezra chat by the coat room. Aria walks up and Simone tells an embarrassing story about how Aria used to sleep with a cookie monster doll. Later, Ezra chats with Simone on the dance floor. A jealous Aria marches up to them and demands, "We have to talk". Spencer intervenes, asking Mr. Fitz to dance, giving Aria a chance to cool off.

Fitz18

Outside, in the parking lot, Aria says that Ezra would be better off with Simone, who is smart, pretty and accomplished, and sheds a tear. Ezra replies, saying that he is in love with someone already, meaning Aria. He moves in to kiss her, but backs up, knowing that anybody could see them in the school parking lot.

Fitz19

Under the guise of asking him to "look over her assignment", Aria seductively confronts Ezra with two tickets to a gallery exhibit in Philadelphia tomorrow night. Ezra goes all out, hiring a limo for the date, as does Aria who is decked out in heels and a red dress waiting for him outside his apartment. He pulls up, commenting on how good she looks and why a limo is much better than the train. The driver opens the door for Aria allowing her to get close to Ezra in the backseat. The two spend a romantic outing in Philadelphia, pleased they don't have to conceal their kisses and hand holding in public, something neither of them is quite used to yet.

Fitz20

Ezra has lunch with his colleagues, including Ella Montgomery, a substitute at Rosewood High School. He invites them to meet an author they all enjoy. Paige's father, Mr. McCullers, storms into the cafeteria demanding to speak to the coach, who is supposedly taking opportunities away from his daughter and giving them to someone who doesn't deserve it to further a political agenda. Ezra calmly diffuses the situation, gaining Ella's respect.

Fitz21

Aria tells Ezra he has nothing to worry about having a parent-teacher conference with her dad even though he is worried about the complexity of the situation. His meeting with Byron does not go well because Byron is under the impression Ezra may be interested in his wife. (Little does he know...) While Ezra tries to talk about Aria, Byron grills him on his taste in literature and generally makes an already awkward situation even more uncomfortable.

Fitz22

Ezra later tells Aria he is sure her father hates him. Either that, or he's crazy. Another day, Ezra and Aria are alone in his apartment fooling around when Byron's voice comes over the answering machine, apologizing for the way he acted, inviting Ezra out for a beer, and decidedly killing the mood.

Fitz23

At school, the girls sit outside the auditorium practicing lines for auditions for the play Mr. Fitz is directing, called "The Bad Seed", while Jenna talks to Mr. Fitz about composing music on her flute for the play. He thinks it's a great idea though seems a bit perplexed by Jenna's comment about finding the nature of evil fascinating.

Fitz24

One morning, Aria ambushes Ezra in his apartment with the idea of making her stage manager for the play. Though initially uncertain, he is powerless against her persuasive arguments and agrees. He is also unsure about making plans with her father. She, however, likes the idea of them getting to know one another, hoping her dad sees how special he is. Aria mentions how she'd like her friends to see how special he is as well, lying that she hasn't told them about their relationship. He says they like him just fine; as a matter of fact, he just cast them in the play. Aria is excited she will get to spend so much time with him on and off-campus working on the play.

Fitz (4)

At play practice, Aria sits next to Ezra and helps him gather up the papers he dropped. Ian Thomas briefly enters the room mistaking it for a Booster Club meeting. They take a break. When play practice resumes, Aria slips up, calling him "Ezra" in front of everyone. She realizes her mistake and hopes no one picks up on it, but it's clear they do. This makes Ezra understandably edgy about their relationship.

Fitz25

Byron catches up with Ezra in the hallway at school, reminding him about the drinks they're supposed to have later. At the bar, Byron mentions that Aria is already "applying to colleges in California", giving Ezra pause, and that Ezra should consider teaching at the college level where he would have more time for his writing. Later, Aria asks how the get-together with her dad went. Ezra mentions how Byron might try to get him a job at Hollis College. Aria doesn't see the need for Ezra to get a new job. He mentions eventually he will want to move on, just like she will.

Fitz26

Tensions rise when a conflict over scheduling causes Aria to admit becoming stage manager was not the best idea. She offers to find a replacement. Then they delve deeper into Ezra's comments earlier about leaving Rosewood. He says that their futures may not be linked, causing Aria to step back, bewildered. She explains she was only looking at one college in California, in Ezra's favorite city, where they could move together. She expects them to have a future, while Ezra is not as certain. She stops by his place later to make her feelings known - the future is uncertain, so they should enjoy what they have now. He seems to agree with the sentiment.

Fitz27

In his classroom, Ezra talks to Jenna about her short story when Aria walks in. When Jenna leaves, he asks Aria about the incident which caused her blindness. They arrange to meet at his place later and cook dinner. Later, he arrives home to find a prepared meal and Aria in a knockout dress. He announces that he likes coming home to her. He brings up Jenna's story again, making Aria uncomfortable, prompting her to ask him to change the subject.

Fitz28

The next morning, Aria shows up to his apartment distressed. He asks what's wrong, shocked to see his girlfriend burst into tears. She fills him in on all the details of the Jenna Thing and hopes he'll continue to look at her the same way knowing she had a hand in Jenna's accident. He says it doesn't change anything, he still loves her, and holds her close on the sofa.

Fitz29

Aria catches up with Ezra in the hall to ask him about their plans for the upcoming Founder's Day Festival. Just then, Aria spots Ella, so she purposefully knocks the coffee out of his hand. Bending down to clean up the mess, she is able to (somewhat) discreetly whisper an invitation to Ezra to a quiet weekend together instead of going to the festival, but he does not answer definitively.

Fitz30

Ezra calls Aria to let her know he'll be late at the moment she finds out that Ezra has an ex-fiancée named Jackie Molina, having seen a picture of the two of them on his laptop. Aria is quite shocked by the photo and cuts the conversation short. She eventually decides to be direct and ask him about it. She feels that he knows everything about her, but he hasn't shared as much about himself. Ezra explains that yes, he was once engaged. They dated throughout college, he proposed in Italy, she accepted, but later broke it off. Aria is not thrilled to hear he wasn't the one to break it off, realizing they could easily be married right now. Ezra reassures her that Jackie is his past and she is his present. This seems to satisfy her and they continue their movie marathon, which Ezra falls asleep during.

Fitz31

Later, Aria decides to have some fun. She drew faces on some paper bags and has them wear them over their heads to pose for a photo. They, of course, cannot take real photos together, in case they were found. Aria gets a text and leaves in a hurry. We see Officer Garrett standing outside Ezra's door, probably seeing Aria exiting his apartment. He knocks on the door and asks to come in, spying the paper bags and a girl's scarf strewn on the sofa. The episode then ends with Garret saying "I'd like to talk to you about one of your students".

Fitz32

Aria gets 10 text messages from Ezra saying that a cop was at his house and he needs to talk to her. Aria anxiously rushes to school to find out what's going on, fearing the worst when he says he just met with the principal. Smiling, Ezra says he just turned in his resignation because "Hollis offered me the job". Aria punches him in the shoulder because she was certain they'd been caught. Ezra apologizes, explaining he cop was there to ask about Spencer, the trophy, props, etc. The real news is how happy he is he and Aria will be able to be seen out in public together, at a coffee shop, or a poetry reading - they don't always have to be looking over their shoulder anymore. He informs her that he'll be attending the faculty mixer at her house tonight. She offers to give him the tour, suggestively offering to show him her room.

Fitz33

At the mixer, Aria answers the door to face none other than Ezra's ex fiancée, Jackie Molina, who explains that she works at Hollis. Aria, taken by surprise, leaves Jackie standing at the door and escapes to her room. Ezra spots her leave, and sees Jackie at the door and realizes why Aria might be upset. He finds her in her room upstairs, under different circumstances than they had intended. Aria says that she can't help but think that Ezra still has feelings for Jackie. Ezra says that he didn't know she would be there. He hasn't seen her since last summer and she was just a TA back then. Aria points out that up until then, Ezra was the only guy who had never lied to her. Disheartened, Aria leaves him standing in her bedroom, speechless.

Season 2

Fitz34

When Mr. Fitz walks into his classroom, he heads to the board to erase the game of hangman spelling out LIARS. He is not thrilled to see Noel has returned to school. He beckons Aria to speak privately in the classroom, checks if she is alright after the incident with Ian and if she wants to talk about it, but she is uncommunicative. He tells her nothing has changed, he is here for her and still loves her. Ezra tries to apologize about Jackie, but Aria is mostly unresponsive. He asks if they are over, and Aria can't manage more than a "I don't know... " He looks very upset when she leaves.

Fitz35

That day after school, Aria makes an appearance at Ezra’s place. There, shirtless Ezra assures Aria he believes she and her friends are telling the truth about the Ian incident. He offers his support to Aria. She says she feels like things have changed. Ezra says she can ask him anything and Aria is curious to hear more details about Jackie. He tells her Jackie wasn't ready for a commitment and assures her that she is not a rebound, but cannot bring himself to lie and say he wasn't still in love with Jackie when he first met Aria. He promises he was never thinking about anyone else while they were together. Ezra asks her to spend the rest of the day, like they used to, but Aria declines and leaves. Ezra is unaware that "A" stole the key to his apartment and his Hollis diploma too.

Fitz36

At school, Aria is cold towards Ezra when he attempts to be friendly. She accuses him of not letting her know about his last day on the job being Friday, and not being clear enough about what to expect after he packs up his desk. He feels he's been perfectly clear about how he feels, but that they won't be able to figure things out before the next bell. She finally consents to meeting Ezra in his apartment the next day to sort out the complicated details of their relationship.

Fitz37

Later, Aria gets a call from Ezra, while waiting for him in his apartment, as per their agreement. Ezra is stuck in a meeting with his new employers at Hollis College, surprised by how the long the meeting has gone. Aria is frustrated, thinking that this should have been anticipated, but she agrees to wait for Ezra in his apartment a while longer until he comes home. She replaces the diploma he never noticed was missing on his desk. She waits over an hour, then finally leaves a note for him perched in the typewriter's output ending things.

Goodbye Mr

Goodbye, Mr. Fitz!

The next day in English class, Ezra uses his last moments with the Rosewood High students to give a parting speech. It is given to the whole class, but the innuendo is clearly intended for Aria alone, telling what an unexpected sense of loss he feels leaving and that he'll never forgot their time together. At the end of the day, Ezra packs up his desk and brings his things to his car. Aria calls out his name running to embrace him, and the two kiss passionately.

Fitz38

While on campus at Ezra's new workplace, Aria and Ezra revel in the fact that they can outwardly show their affection for each in public. The two lovers share a kiss, not realizing that a stunned Jackie is eyeing them from across the way. Later, Aria grumbles about the fact Jenna is in her pottery class. Ezra, in a robe, just out of the shower, sits beside her and listens. He mentions maybe the universe is trying to tell her something, maybe it's time to bury the hatchet with Jenna they share an interest in art after all. He pulls her closer and gives her a kiss while she contemplates his advice.

Fitz39

Aria visits Ezra at Hollis. She sits perched on Ezra's desk, cluing him in on the details of discovering Ian's body. They are sharing an intimate moment, which is silently overheard by Jackie, who purposely barges into the office to break up their tête-à-tête. Ezra awkwardly introduces Aria as a former student, and she explains she just stopped by on the way to her dad's office. Jackie patronizingly calls Ezra by a nickname, probably to make Aria jealous, and later remarks that "Mr. Fitz" should start letting "the girl" call him by his first name. After Jackie leaves, they discuss everything wrong with that little encounter. Aria's not crazy about the nickname "Z", mentioning how her family used to call her Pookie Bear and don't anymore, for good reason. Aria felt disappointed being introduced as a former student and Ezra felt demoted to a pit stop when she mentioned her dad. They agree in the future that he will introduce her as "a friend", and he just might have to start calling her Pookie Bear.

PLL02E05-11

Later, when Ezra shows up to the church for Ian's funeral service, he is questioned about his attendance by Ella and Byron Montgomery. Ezra is at first forthcoming, admitting Aria invited him. However, he explains that it was to support his former students, all of them. Aria is rebuffed, especially when her father acknowledges the gesture towards the "kids". He sits next to them during the service. After the burial in the cemetery, Aria makes a comment about rounding up the entire student body so they can talk, chiding him for his earlier remarks. She wishes they could move forward and start being seen as a couple in public, but both know it's not the time or the place for a big step like that. Aria expresses her need for a hug, but all he can do is say he'll call her later.

Your idea

Your idea, after all.

Byron invites Ezra and a plus-one to dinner. He feels that it would be nice to extend a hand to his teaching colleague who is still learning the ropes of Hollis. Byron points out that there is no conflict of interest now that Ezra is no longer Aria's teacher and that she should start to call him Ezra. He accepts the invitation. Aria comes to see him at Hollis to talk him out of it, but he feels inclined to go. He persuades her that it will finally be their opportunity to warm Ella and Byron up to the Aria and Ezra interacting in a way other than as teacher and student. It will be "a baby step", just like she wanted. Aria reluctantly agrees.

Fitz39b

At dinner, Ezra comes over bringing flowers and scotch. He and Aria joke about the scotch, then Aria happily introduces him to her guests as "Ezra". Jason brings a similar gesture, and Aria's two suitors meet for the first time. Ezra notices Aria take a phone call upstairs. Jason and Ezra exchange stories about traveling and biking. When Officer Barry shows up to make the announcement of Mike's arrest, Jason and Aria exchange knowing looks, at which Ezra raises an eyebrow. Ezra, Jason, and Aria are left alone in the house after Byron and Ella and their other guests leave.

Fitz40

Sensing something up

Ezra helps Aria clear the table and runs the dishwasher. He remarks how well he was doing tonight before they were interrupted. They joke about him practicing what to say in front of the mirror to impress her father. Ezra questions why Jason was invited tonight, expecting a more specific answer than he is Ali's brother, and Aria explains her mom and his mom are friends. Aria goes to the living room to offer Jason more coffee, while Ezra watches intently, wondering what the two are whispering about.

Fitz2 (1)

A little later, while Aria leaves her two suitors together downstairs, Jason makes small talk with Ezra, asking if he had Aria... in his class at Rosewood High. At that moment, Aria approaches and suddenly declares it's time for them to leave. Ezra is surprised and asks, "both of us?" Aria apologizes and says she will talk to him tomorrow. The two gentleman exit, making awkward eye contact on the door stoop before going their separate ways.

Fitz41

Ezra pops in on Aria working in the Hollis College pottery studio. He puts his arms around her and jokes about the pottery wheel scene in Ghost, but she's not in the mood. He mentions how flew past his apartment that morning. She claims she had to make sure her bowl gets put in the kiln. He asks, "how are things at home?" He tries to explain Mike's behavior by suggesting that Mike's friends put him up to it, but Aria informs him that he's broken into other houses too. She mentions him trying to break into Jason's place, and it dawns on Ezra that that was why she and Jason were privately whispering to each other at the failed dinner party.

Fitz42

Aria just nods and picks up her finished piece and sets it on the shelf of pottery awaiting the kiln. Ezra picks up Jenna's candle holder and compliments it. Aria lets him know who its artist is. He asks about patching things up with Jenna, but Aria has nothing to report. Ezra asks why Aria hadn't confided in him about Mike, and she replies because it was embarrassing. He reassures her she shouldn't feel that way around him because he is understanding. He invites her over for later that day, and she accepts the offer, telling him she'll call him. During their conversation up until this point, Aria's voice has been very subdued. Ezra is about to leave, but turns quickly on his heels and asks if Jason is a threat to him. Aria gives a little laugh and denies it. When he leaves, she doesn't bother to turn her head to watch him go.

Fitz2 (2)

That night at the hospital, Aria gets a text from Ezra, who she never called as promised. Ezra waits for her in the waiting room. There, Ezra offers his help, then invites Aria over later, but before she responds, she gets a phone call. Stripping in Ezra's office

Aria has conflicting sex dreams about Ezra and Jason. Aria saunters into Ezra’s office insisting they need some alone time and removes some layers until her bra and black lace top is revealed. She props a chair in front of the door, then starts to kiss Ezra passionately. He mumbles something about having class in fifteen minutes, but both agree that is plenty of time. He rethinks this idea again, but Aria convinces him he thinks far too much. She wraps her legs around him and Ezra surrenders; they move to the sofa.

Fitz2 (3)

After class, Ezra walks in to find Aria with snacks and sodas from the vending machine, a veritable feast! Sensing something may be up, Ezra asks if anything is going on, picking up on her recent moodswings. Aria says she is just happy and wants to share the feeling.

Fitz45

Ezra sets up a booth for Hollis College at the Rosewood High School college fair with Jackie's help. Jackie flirts with him and hangs a bundle of Hollis lanyards around his neck. Later, Ezra spots Aria at another booth and approaches her, feigning a hard sell for College, specifying how "hands on" the teachers there are, but she doesn't play along. Aria gives him a half-smile, then walks outside. Ezra follows her, and Jackie is all too-attentive. With some slightly greater measure of privacy, she assures him she's not mad at him, but she's frustrated with the "outside forces" which are threatening their relationship. Believing she is referring to his ex, he assures her that he does not have feelings for Jackie and there is nothing to worry about, but in the process of explaining her feelings, she blurts out that Jason kissed her. She doesn't get a chance to explain because Jackie walks up enlisting "Z" to get some brochures out the car. He walks away, still shocked and dismayed by what Aria just told him.

Fitz46

After the college fair, Ezra slides into his car, and stares bewildered as Spencer slides into the passenger seat simultaneously. She quickly cuts to the chase and lets Ezra know that she is aware of Aria's romance with him. Ezra stammers a denial, but Spencer waves it off, even slipping in an "Ezra", alarming "Mr. Fitz" further. She lets Ezra know that she believes Aria to be in trouble. As they are sitting in broad daylight during school hours in front of Rosewood Highs school's building, Ella spots them while descending the steps, looking none too pleased.

Fitz47

When Aria goes to Jason, Ezra pulls into Jason's driveway. He reveals what Spencer told him and that he is there to 'rescue' Aria from Jason. Aria assures Ezra that Jason is not a threat in that way, but Ezra still does not like the situation for a different reason. Jason is a threat to their relationship, even if he isn't a threat to Aria's well-being, and Ezra wants to settle things by going public with their relationship, beginning with Aria's parents. Overjoyed to hear Ezra talk this way, she kisses him, and Jason finally comes back, just in time to witness the liplock. He watches as Aria gets into Ezra's car.

Fitz48

They don't follow through with the plan to tell Aria's parents though. Some time later, Jackie brings coffee to Ezra in his office, as he sits reclining on his couch reading some material. She tries to engage him by reminiscing about old times when things were steady between them. Aria, who is also bringing coffee, stops short when she sees that Jackie has beaten her to it. She hides by the doorway, straining to hear which words Jackie has for her beau. Ezra firmly denies Jackie's advances and lets her know that he’s seeing someone, to Aria's relief. Jackie plays dumb to this and keeps pitching anyway, wanting to know what his answer would be if they were both single. But he shoots her down, reminding her that he is not single. Later that day, Aria sees an incoming call from Ezra and ignores it.

Aria and the other girls are arrested on suspicion of murder. Aria uses her one phone call to call Ezra and tell him she made a terrible mistake and needs him. Ezra walks into the police station while the girls are being detained and the parents are standing together. Byron wonders at his presence, and Ella goes to confront Ezra and give him the chance to leave, as this is absolutely an inappropriate time to deal with this issue. He says, "I'm in love with her". She then says, "If Spencer’s parents find out about this, they will ruin you". Ezra looks stunned. After the hiatus we learn that he did not in fact correct Ella.

Mike returns and they all exchange awkward goodbyes.

Fitz51

Later that day, Byron visits Ezra in his office. They discuss combining their classes to watch a film one day and finishing the dinner that was interrupted. Byron gets a text and mentions how he has had to deal with so many lawyers lately, referring to Aria's arrest. Ezra is sympathetic and asks how things have been. He says he knows Aria well enough to know that Aria would never hurt Ella or Byron on purpose. He agrees with Byron's notion that no one ever starts out intending to hurt anyone.

Fitz52

The next day, Ezra walks in on Jackie and Aria arguing in his office. After Jackie leaves, he finally learns from Aria why she broke up with him. Jackie had been blackmailing her and after all the trouble with the cops, Aria didn't want to drag Ezra into it. Ezra regrets not telling her mother the truth in the police station. Aria is about to leave, resigned to the futility of the situation when Ezra asks if she still trusts him. She answers yes and he informs her that there is something important they have to do that afternoon.

Fitz53

"I love Aria".

Later, standing before Byron and Ella in their living room, he and Aria finally come clean about their relationship, much to her parents' shock and anger. Ezra does most of the talking, explaining he's in love with Aria and admits it started before she was his student and that it continued while she was his student. Ella and Byron are both in disbelief. Before Byron can hit Ezra, Mike walks up and does it first. After a stunned silence, Aria advises Ezra to leave.

Fitz54

"Go away, Jackie".

He is later seen in his office reclined on his sofa, contemplative, and drinking. Jackie walks in and tries to defend her actions. Ezra tells her to go away. Spying his injured lip, she realizes he must have told her parents and guesses that Professor Montgomery hit him. Aggravated by her presence, he stands up and tells Jackie in no uncertain terms that he does not want anything to do with her and that she will not do anything to hurt Aria then kicks her out of his office.

The job is an incredible opportunity and if he turns it down, Byron will know why. Aria says that they will figure something out like they always do. Ezra says that he's not so sure about that anymore. She asks if he is giving up on them. He says no, but they've been trying to work it out for a long time and maybe they should consider the possibility it is not meant to be. Aria is very visibly upset. Ezra leaves, having to get to class. She breaks down and cries in her car.

Fitz65

Later, Aria and Ezra eat and talk at Ezra's apartment. Aria wonders when he is leaving because it feels like he's left already. He assures her he won't be leaving right away. Fitz66a

Ella stares at Ezra and Aria sitting opposite her on the couch. Aria wants to know what they're all doing there. Ella admits while she does not condone their relationship, she is afraid of what will happen if she takes the same stance as Byron. Ezra still isn't sure where they stand. Eye of the Beholder

Fitz67

Ella shows up to Ezra's office while he is reading papers. He hops up and offers her a refreshment even though all he has is chocolate milk and an apple. Compared to Byron, she may seem that way, but the only person she cares about is Aria. Ezra asks if she wants him gone too. Ella pretends not to have an opinion on the matter, but he calls her out on it, and she implies she would like him to take the job in New Orleans as well.

Byron encourages him to take the position, but is not sure why Ezra wants to talk to him. Ezra explains that since he was so instrumental in getting him the position, he should be the first to know his decision. Byron tries to downplay his involvement, but Ezra thanks him for his generosity anyway, then informs him he will not be taking the job. When Byron tells him it is a mistake, Ezra concedes maybe, but not the mistake Byron thinks. Ezra won't reconsider and explains if he took the job, as incredible as it may be, he would never be sure why he did it he doesn't want Byron to have that much power over him. Byron is appalled Ezra would speak to him that way after what he's done to his family. Ezra apologizes, but Byron doesn't accept and tells him once again to leave. Ezra says he is not the kind of man who would take this way out and maybe Byron's ego is getting in the way of everyone moving on. Byron exits without another word and Ezra takes a deep breath. He calls Aria and tells her he loves her.

Placing the food on the table, Ezra asks her what she’s doing, and when she hangs up, he tells her, “that’s not trying to find a way to forgive yourself. That’s hoping they forgive you”. Ezra also mentions that if they did forgive her, it wouldn’t be because she made a donation. Moving to the couch, Ezra tells her he knows it’s not easy, and he can say this because it’s what he has to tell himself every night, “once you found out about the book, the only thing that I could think of was how to make it up to you. And I would have done anything to get you to forgive me. But I realised, that might not ever happen, and I had to be okay with that”. Leaning forward, Ezra grabs his checkers board and starts to set it up. When Aria asks what he’s doing, Ezra tells her they’re playing checkers until they get sick of it, they’ll play chess.

Hearing a familiar sound as a bus starts to depart, Ezra, Aria and Alison turn, coming face to face with Jenna who is back in Rosewood.

Walking into Ezra’s apartment, Aria hands Ezra a Paula’s Pie box, while reminding him that while there might no longer be ‘A’, he should still lock his door. Sitting down at his table, Ezra asks “why pie?” to which Aria throws a why not pie comment over her shoulder as she grabs forks from a drawer. Aria tells him that Jenna is blaming herself for Shana's death, and if she's to blame anyone, it should be her. Ezra thinks that they should both be blaming Shana as she was the one holding the gun. As Aria eat a mouthful, Ezra wipes some cream from her bottom lip and licks the cream from his thumb, before realising what he just did. Aria tells Ezra that Alison believed that Jenna was manipulating Shana, but Aria thinks Jenna was truly in love with Shana. Ezra tells her that she needs to stop beating herself up, and when she says she doesn't know how she is going to get past it, he stands up, lifting his shirt and shows her his scar from the gunshot wound, “do you see this? This is what she did to me. I’m lucky to be alive, and so are you”. Saddened, Aria traces over the edges of the wound with her thumb, and tells him that she is sorry. Grabbing her wrists and lifting her up, Ezra tells her that he never wants to hear her say she's sorry again, and leans in to kiss her. Reciprocating the kiss, they move to Ezra's oven where he lifts her onto the stovetop and they continue to kiss with more passion and urge.

On Ezra's bed, Aria and Ezra are feverishly making out, and when Aria rolls on top of Ezra, she asks if that hurts, to which Ezra tells, “I can handle it”. Sitting up, Aria drags the bed sheet over them as she leans back down to kiss him.

A breaking news story breaks in regards to the identity of the Jane Doe who was buried in Alison's grave, so everyone gathers in Emily's living room. As the press conference starts, Ezra reaches out to Aria and she takes his hand in hers and rests her other hand on his arm. The Police Chief explains that they've received confirmation tonight that the girl that was buried alive on the DiLaurentis property was Bethany Young. As the Police Chief is finishing up the press conference, a large boom is heard and windows of Emily's lounge room explode. Recovering from the glass blast, Ezra and the others walk out onto the street to find the Cavanaugh house on fire and rubble lying all over the road.

Run, Ali, Run

Pretty Little Liars S05E06 Ezra

The Liars' cell phones are beeping and ringing with an incoming text message, and Alison says that it is from A, so Ezra asks what it says, and Aria reads it out loud, "Did you miss me, bitches. -A". A second explosion inside the Cavanaugh house occurs leaving Ezra and the others ducking for cover.

In Ezra's apartment, Aria tells Ezra that Shana wasn't 'A', and that she killed an innocent person, and Ezra reminds her that Shana was not innocent. Aria tells him the cops aren't going to believe that when they find out she's been covering Shana's murder up, and it's only a matter of time before A exposes she I did. Ezra tells her that they don't know if this person has any idea of what happened in New York, and when Aria asks Ezra what he is doing, he tells her he's looking for a connection between Mrs DiLaurentis and Bethany Young. When Aria questions him why, Ezra explains that he doesn't think he was to far off with his Mrs D theory, "Mrs D was on the board at Radley Sanitarium. Bethany was a patient there. Bethany was buried in her yard, in the same spot where Ali was buried". Aria picks up that Ezra thinks A killed Bethany and Mrs D, and Ezra confirms it, "that would be a connection". He goes on to say when he was writing his book he interviewed some of the staff at Radley and he thinks the name Bethany Young came up, he just doesn't know which file it is in. As Aria tells him that she can help him look after school, he tells her that they're going to get through this.

Ezra and Aria are going through Ezra's research when Aria stumbles on a photo of them together, and Ezra tells her it was a fun day the day the photo was taken. As Aria begins to talk about what happened the other night, Ezra cuts her off, "felt right, didn't it?", but Aria tells him it doesn't mean things can go back to the way that they were. Ezra questions what it does mean, and Aria says that she's not going to pretend she doesn't miss it, them, because she does, and Ezra tells her he does too. Aria then tells him that she then remembers everything that happened, how they met and all the lies he told, and while Ezra says he wishes he could go back and change things, Aria reminds him he can't, and the other night was a mistake. As someone knocks on Ezra's door, he gets up to answer it, and Lieutenant Tanner introduces herself, and wonders if she could ask him a few questions. Handing Ezra an envelope that was outside his door, Tanner wonders if she can come in. Ezra hesitates before allowing Tanner entry, and walking back inside his apartment, he drops the envelope on the photo of he and Aria to cover it up.

Noticing the boxes, Tanner asks Ezra if he's moving out, but Ezra tells her he's just getting rid of some old school files. After Ezra asks what he can help Tanner with, she says she has some questions regarding Shana Fring. Confused, Ezra thought the New York detectives were handling that case, and Tanner tells him they are, but Shana was a former resident of Rosewood, so we're just helping them gather further information. Tanner asks if Ezra knew Shana well, and Ezra tells her Shana was never one of his students, before Tanner asks him if he mentioned that his mother owned a Theater in New York, but Ezra tells her he never mentioned that to any of his students. When Tanner says that it must have been a coincidence that Shana's body was found there, Ezra tells her, "it came as quite a shock to me and my family". Rehashing details, Tanner mentions that Ezra was shot the night before Shana was killed, and that when they found Shana, she had some gun residue on her sweatshirt. After wondering what Tanner's question was, Tanner asks Ezra if he remembers anything about his mugger, but he tells her nothing he hasn't already said. Thanking Ezra for his time, Tanner stands to leave, and Ezra says to let him know if he can be of any further help.

After Lieutenant Tanner has left, Aria tells Ezra that they need to get the boxes out of his apartment quick, and when Ezra tells Aria to slow down, Aria is convinced Tanner is probably already on her way back with a search warrant. Ezra tells her that Tanner is not on her way back, and when Aria asks how he can say that as Tanner basically said that she knew Shana was the one who shot Ezra, Ezra questions why Tanner would want to search his apartment. Aria tells him Tanner knows Ezra is hiding something, and Ezra tells her that "she's going to need a whole lot more than suspicion to get a search warrant". Aria goes on to say that if Tanner does come back she's going to find proof that Ezra was lying about how well he knew Shana, and that Alison wasn't kidnapped. Ezra says that he could move the stuff into his storage unit, but Aria realises that if it's registered in his name, they'll search the storage unit as well, before Aria suggests that they just put everything in her attic. Ripping open the envelope that was left for him, Ezra finds a drawing and wonders what it is. Walking over to him, Aria says that she thinks it Mrs DiLaurentis, and when Ezra asks how she can tell, Aria explains that it's the DiLaurentis house in the background, she was obsessed with her roses, and she definitely wore scarves like the one in the picture. Flipping the page over, Ezra reads the signature, "Bethany", and when Aria questions how many Bethany's he knows, he tells her just one, "and she was buried in Mrs DiLaurentis' backyard". Aria wonders who would want him to have this picture, and when he wonders why, Aria tells him her money is on 'A', before Ezra realises that he still has his security camera's up in the hallway.

Going through the security camera footage, Aria hands him a bottle of water and asks if he's seen anything, and he tells her, "just you arriving at my door". Aria can't believe that he still has a camera in the hallway, but Ezra tells her "it makes sense with all the research material here". Aria comes to the conclusion that whoever dropped of the picture had to of done it after she arrived, but before Tanner came, and with Ezra agreeing, he puts the video in fast forward. Aria tells him she's been thinking, and that perhaps he should tell Tanner the truth about Shana, and that she was the one who shot him. When Ezra asks where this is coming from, Aria tells him that he lied to the police and that he could get into serious trouble. Ezra reminds her that if he tells the truth now, they're going to know he's covering something up. Sighing, Aria says that she hates that she's dragged him into this mess. Grabbing her hand, Ezra tells her she didn't, "I dragged myself into it when I decided to write a book". Placing her hand on Ezra's, the two share a look, before Ezra notices something on the security camera footage. Rewinding and going through the footage in slow motion, they spot who left the envelope, and when Aria asks Ezra if he knows who the person is, Ezra tells her that it is Eddie Lamb, "he works at Radley, and he's one of the people I interviewed for the book". Recognising the name, Aria mentions that Eddie Lamb was the one who Spencer talked to earlier, and he wouldn't tell her a thing, and when Ezra says that he must have had a change of heart, Aria questions why he left the picture for Ezra, but Ezra doesn't know.

The Silence of E. Lamb

Pretty Little Liars S05E07 157

Ezra is closing the locks on a metal briefcase when someone knocks on his apartment door. Going to answer, Ezra greets Spencer, and when Spencer asks if he's ready, Ezra lets her in. When Spencer comments wow, Ezra asks "wow what?", and she tells him she forgot about how enthusiastic he was about watching things. Scratching his head, Ezra asks if Spencer has heard from Aria, and she tells him she just talked to her, before Ezra says that they should have waited, "I can talk to Eddie myself once the police finish". Spencer tells Ezra in her experience with Eddie Lamb, he's much less likely to talk to him after the police leave, and Ezra says that "he must know something. He left the picture on my doorstep". Spencer goes on to say Eddie is big on self-preservation, and seeing the concerned look on Ezra's face, she reassures him that Aria will be fine, and that Aria told her not to let him do any heaving lifting. As Spencer is carrying a briefcase towards the door, Ezra asks if she parked downstairs, and she tells him she parked around the corner. As Ezra plays with a piece of equipment, Spencer asks him if he's let her borrow one of his cameras, and after a moment, Ezra tells her "no problem".

At Ezra's friend's shed, Spencer thanks him for showing up on the roof in New York, and Ezra tells her “it’s turning into my greatest hit”, before Spencer says that it was pretty impressive. Ezra tells Spencer that “all those boxes, and all those words, and it wasn’t even the book I wanted to write”, and when Spencer asks him what he wanted to write about, he tells her “my family. My brother, me, what happened when my parents divorced. My mother and my father came from who we thought they were to who they really are”. Ezra goes on to say that he was going to figure it all out on paper, but he couldn’t, and Spencer tells him families can be hard. Ezra then mentions that he decided to write a book on a mystery he thought he could solve, “and not only did I not solve it, I, uh, I probably made it worse”, to which Spencer tells him she knows that feeling, and that the camera she’s borrowing is for her sister because she’s connected to all this, Spencer just doesn’t know how. Ezra suggests that maybe they should just put down the puzzles and walk away, but Spencer tells him when he finds out how to do that, to give her a call, “you’ll be the first one”.

Ezra is standing on Aria’s front porch when she opens her front door, and he asks for confirmation that she saw Eddie as she was leaving Radley. Aria tells him she did, in the parking lot, and when she asks why, Ezra tells her “he called to set up a meeting. I waited for over an hour, and he never showed up”.

Scream For Me

Pretty.Little.Liars.S05E08.720p

Although not seen in this episode, after Alison is questioned by Lieutenant Tanner, Aria tells the other liars that she has to go tell Ezra about what was broadcast in The Brew, so he’s not ambushed if Tanner decides to question him while he’s having a medical check-up in New York.

Aria is leaving Ezra a voice mail saying that Alison got grilled by Tanner and that ‘A’ must have tipped her off about New York. She asks if Eddie has called yet as they need to figure out what is up with those drawings, and she has to get them back to Big Rhonda before she notices them missing. After spotting Ella walking towards her, Aria tells Ezra to call her as soon as he can. While Aria is talking with Ella, Ezra tries to call Aria back.

March of Crimes

While not in this episode, Aria sends Ezra a text message telling him not to rush back from New York and that Lieutenant Tanner had a lot of questions about him and Shana.

A Dark Ali

Pretty Little Liars S05E10 Ezra

In his apartment, Ezra questions if Alison is going to say that Cyrus is guilty and Aria tells him yeah, and that she thinks that he’s going to lead her to ‘A’, when really A’s going to make the whole confession lead Tanner back to then. When Ezra comments that Alison wouldn’t do that, “she’s crazy, but she’s not stupid”, Aria tells mentions that she thought so to, but a whole day has passed and Cyrus is still sitting in jail. Having looked around the apartment, Aria asks that everything is gone, the book, the research, the photos of Ali, because if Tanner comes here…, and cutting in, Ezra reminds her that she was the one who sent over Spencer to help him move everything, “she’s very thorough. You and I both know that”. Ezra asks “where she is?”, and when Aria questions if he’s talking about Spencer, Ezra tells her no, “Alison”. Aria asks why and when Ezra tells Aria that she wants to talk with her, Aria tells him no, no he’s not. Aria reminds Ezra that he just got his stitches out and he’s about to take a bike ride for the first time in god knows how long, and when Aria mentions that he just got the all clear from his doctor, she realises that he’s okay again, really okay. Aria continues by saying that she’s not going to allow him to jump back on Alison’s crazy train, not with Tanner circling and ‘A’ watching their every move, and as Ezra tries to speak, Aria cuts him off, asking him to promise her that he want speak to Alison. After Aria adds that she likes knowing that he’s safe, Ezra tells her okay, “okay. I promise”.

At The Brew, Ezra is getting a takeaway coffee when he spots Alison sitting at one of the tables. As he begins to leave, Ezra changes his mind and walking over to Alison he sits, and mentions that she’s not in this alone, “a lot of people have supported you, don’t whatever you’ve asked, gone along with your stories…” When Alison asks if he is threatening her, Ezra says that right now it’s an observation. Alison questions if Aria asked him to talk with her, before going on to say that if one more person tells her what she should do, she’s going to scream, and before Ezra can answer, Kenneth walks back. Kenneth asks Ezra if he can help him, before telling him that if there is anything he wants to say to Alison, he can talk to him, or the police. Ezra apologises and explains that he was just saying hello, before he grabs his takeaway coffee and getting up to leave. As Ezra is walking away, he stops when he notices Aria watching and the two share a look.

Ezra is standing with Aria at her car when she asks him what he said to Alison. When Ezra says that he told Alison that her actions have consequences, Aria wonders what about him, before questioning if he was even listening when she asked him not to talk with her. Ezra tells her yes, “I was”, and Aria comments that he sought her out anyway. Ezra begins explaining himself, and as Aria struggles to close the trunk of her car, he offers to help her, but Aria tells him she’s got it. Stepping back, Ezra says that he “didn’t seek her out. I saw her, I made a split decision and I walked over’, and Aria comments that he did it right in the middle of town, right in front of her dad. Aria questions what if Tanner saw him, and when she figures out he and Alison are connected, it is over, before asking if he gets that. As Aria is going through the trunk, Ezra apologises and says that he was just trying to help and the only way he knew how…, but cutting him off, Aria turns back and questions that he was trying to help by lying to her. When Ezra tells her, “by talking to Alison, because…”, Aria says that it was the one thing she asked him not to do. Crouching down to collect the things that Aria had just dropped from the car crunch, Ezra asks her why she’s this upset. Looking at a photo, Aria looks up to Ezra, and instead of answering, she gathers what they’re both holding and putting them in the trunk, she brushes past him. Picking up a photo that was left on the ground, Ezra stands and watches as Aria gets into her car.

No One Here Can Love or Understand Me

Pretty Little Liars S05E11 Ezra

Sitting at his desk in his apartment, Ezra is reading over a paper when there is a knock at his door. Getting up, he walks over to answer, and opening his door he finds Emily who asks if she can talk with him.

Having let Emily in, Ezra asks how Alison could identify the kidnapper when she was never really kidnapped, and Emily explains that Alison knew him from when she was on her own. Emily mentions that the name the kidnapper gave the police was Cyrus Petrillo before asking if Ezra has ever heard the name from all the time he was doing his research. Ezra tells her no, and that he doesn’t have much from when she was gone, “it’s blank”, before he wonders why Cyrus would confess to a crime he didn’t commit. Emily suggests that perhaps he knew it wouldn’t stick, or maybe he knew Alison wouldn’t confirm the story until it was too late. Ezra questions why you would take that chance, before realisation sets in, “because somebody has something worse to use against you”. Emily grabs a photo from her bag and passing it to Ezra, she asks him if he’s seen it before. Ezra tells her no, and asks where she got it, and Emily tells him she got it from a friend of a friend. Looking over the photo, Ezra says he’ll find out what he can on Cyrus, and after Emily has thanked him, Ezra thanks her for trusting him. When Emily says he’s the only one who might be able to help her get the answers she needs, and that she has to trust him, Ezra thanks her for her honesty.

In the Brew after close, Ezra tells Emily that the photo of Alison and the mystery man was taken 16 months ago at a branch off the turnpike near Donegal, “you can tell by the code. It’s in the timestamp”. Going on, Ezra explains that if you have that code you can find all sorts of other interesting things, before he hands Emily a photo where the man with Alison is facing the camera. When Emily says that it’s Cyrus Petrillo, Ezra says that he’s also known as “Cyrus Hart, Robert Hart and Cy Enfield”, and that none of them are solid citizens, “he’s been arrested half a dozen times”. Seeing Emily’s face, Ezra says that you have to know where to look, “it’s all petty stuff. No convictions”. Emily wonders what Alison promised Cyrus to get him to confess and Ezra says that Emily seems pretty sure that’s what happened, to which Emily says that it makes sense, at least the way Alison thinks. When Emily says that Alison has an amazing gift for knowing what a person wants, what they’re missing, Ezra comments that “it’s a very special talent”, and one that causes a lot of damage.

Taking This One to the Grave

Pretty Little Liars S05E12 Ezra

Standing by a police vehicle as a house is taped off as a crime scene, Ezra and Aria, along with Hanna and Emily, stand huddled together, visibly upset and shaken. Officer Barry Maple approaches them and says that he’ll take their statements now, one at a time. As Aria turns in towards his chest, Ezra listens as she comments that he saw the amount of blood in there and that there’s no way anyone could have lived through that. Aria, Hanna and Emily’s cell phones ring with an incoming text, and Emily reads it aloud, “it’s all your fault. –A”.

In Ezra’s apartment, Aria tells Ezra that he has pumpkin guts on his face, and when he tries to wipe it away, she grabs a tea towel and does it for him. As Ezra continues to remove the innards from a pumpkin, Aria tells him that they can just go to Paula’s and buy the pies. Ezra tells her no, “this is my grandmother’s recipe”, and its way better than Paula’s. Aria mentions that Granny Rose uses Libby’s canned pie mix, puts it in a frozen shell, and the Montgomery’s never know the difference. Ezra mentions that this is the first time the “Montgomery’s” have invited him over for Thanksgiving, “and you’re mother assigned me with pie duty, so I’m not taking it lightly”. Aria tells him that they’re not going to have enough time to judge his baking, as they’ll be too busy judging him. When Ezra gives her a deer in the headlights look, Aria tells him that is why he was invited, her family knows they’re spending a lot of time together and they want to make sure he’s worth a second look. Laughing, Ezra says that he’s starting to feel like a used car, and questions whether her family are going to “kick my tyres and check under my hood?” Shrugging, Aria tells him that if Aunt Sarah gets drunk, she may check under his hood, and her Uncle Danny will ask him to arm wrestle, but to just say no. Going on, Aria tells Ezra that he’s going to love Granny though, and that if he can get passed the long chin hairs, he won’t mind that she toots a lot. As Ezra shudders, Aria tells him that she’s joking and that Granny plucks her chin hairs, before the two sharing a smiling behind the eyes look.

Ezra tells Aria that he knows they don’t need the pies they baked, but he figured someone may get hungry, when Aria lets him into her house. Closing the front door, Aria tells Ezra that her mom is still on the phone with Veronica, and that the Hastings’ still haven’t seen Spencer yet. Ezra assures Aria that the Hastings’ are working on Spencer’s bail, “they’ll get her out of there in no time, Aria”. As Aria’s phone rings with an incoming call, she tells Ezra that it’s Mona calling. After Aria ends the call, she tells Ezra to grab his coat, and when he asks her where they’re going, Aria tells him that they’re going to Mona’s, as Mona has found proof that Alison’s ‘A’.

Walking into the Vanderwaal residence, Ezra, Aria, Emily and Hanna are shocked to see Mona’s house trashed with hand prints of blood in the entryway, “oh no”.

Standing by a police vehicle as the Vanderwaal house is taped off as a crime scene, Ezra and Aria, along with Hanna and Caleb, and Emily and Paige, stand huddled together, visibly upset and shaken. Caleb listen on as Detective Holbrook tells the waiting press that while the investigation is ongoing, they have ruled what has happened a homicide and that Mona Vanderwaal was murdered.

How the 'A' Stole Christmas

Pretty Little Liars S05E13 Ezra

At Rosewood High, Ezra steps out from behind a Christmas Tree, as Aria goes to place a tray of cookies back on the table with other food. Mentioning that he knows she wanted to keep it low key these holidays, Ezra says that he got her something for tonight. Aria questions if it’s an Ali decoder ring, and after Ezra chuckles, she opens the gift box to find a pair of dangling diamond earrings. After Aria tells him they’re beautiful, Ezra says that “Mandi at the boutique” said the earrings might to go well with the second present he gifts her with. As Aria takes the larger present, she comments that if this is low key, she’s afraid to ask what full on Christmas looks like at the Fitzgerald house. Ezra tells her not ask, “it’s like ‘how many ponies can you get’”. Shocked, Aria asks if he’s serious, and when Ezra coyly tells her “no”, Aria calls him out, and Ezra tells her that he got two ponies, “but I only asked for one”.

Ezra and Aria, along with Emily and Paige, and Hanna and Caleb, slow dance under the lit up gazebo, until everyone turns their attention to the top of the staircase. Walking to the edge of the gazebo, Ezra, Aria, the other couples and Spencer watch as Alison, followed by four other girls, make their grand entrance.

Spotting someone, Ezra, Caleb and Paige start to follow.

Walking up to Ezra and Caleb, Paige mentions that Emily and Aria lost sight of Alison. Ezra says that he thinks he just found her, and the three watch as Alison enters the Winter Wonderland Maze.

Ezra, Aria, Emily, Caleb and Paige discuss the possibility that Holbrook was the one who Alison was kissing. Aria notices a look on Ezra’s face and asks him what it is, before Ezra says that if Holbrook is helping Alison, he wants to know when it started. Ezra then listens as Emily says that CeCe showed up in New York that night, and Alison helped get her out of the country. Ezra questions if Emily thinks Holbrook was in on it, and Emily says that she thinks Holbrook helped CeCe escape, and he did it for Alison. Noticing Alison and someone dressed in a white coat and hood walk out of the Maze, Caleb comments that it looks as though she made a friend, and Ezra adds, “she went in their alone”. When Emily says that they’re walking towards the exit, Ezra mentions that Holbrook is as well. Caleb tells Aria and Emily to follow Ali, while he and Ezra follow Holbrook, and Paige adds that she’ll grab Lucas.

Walking up behind Holbrook, Ezra, accompanied by Caleb, calls out to the detective, “can I have a word with you for a second”, while Aria and Emily slip by to keep following Alison and the person in the white coat and hood.

In the Hastings’ living room, Ezra, Aria and the other couples listens as Toby says that the letter Hanna found proves that Alison knew Bethany, and that it may create enough reasonable doubt to clear Spencer’s name. As the clock strikes midnight, Ezra leans downs to kiss Aria, before kneeling on the floor and wrapping her in a hug.

Ezra, Paige, Toby and Caleb appear on the Hastings’ staircase wearing nothing but Santa boxers, “Merry Christmas”. As they begin to walk down the stairs, Ezra turns back to help Toby, who is on crutches.

Ezra and Aria are getting food out of the fridge, as everyone else huddles around the island bench in the Hastings’ kitchen.

Grabbing a cooked roast from the Hastings’ island bench, Ezra presents, “Christmas chicken”, to everyone. As Ezra sits down, Aria tells them that they should all say a prayer, and they link hands with one another.

Laughing and enjoying each others company, everyone starts to serve their plates with food.

Ezra listens as Emily toasts to their family, may they always stay together, before clinking glasses with everyone. Suddenly everyone hears the sound of bells and something falling down the chimney. Getting up from the table, everyone heads outside where they find a Christmas tree all lit up in Spencer’s backyard. As they’re admiring the tree, snow starts falling and a message over Spencer’s barn lights up. Aria reads the message aloud, “Merry Christmas, Bitches. –A”, before snuggling into Ezra’s chest.

Through a Glass, Darkly

Pretty Little Liars S05E14 Ezra

Ezra walks out of the Rosewood Church following Mona’s funeral service. Standing off to the side with Mike, Ezra watches as Leona Vanderwaal slaps Alison when she tries to say that she had nothing to do with Mona’s death.

Walking into The Brew, which is being remodeled, Ezra tells Aria that once it’s all done, the side wall will be all bookshelves. Aria tells him that it looks good in a, has to get real messy before it gets clean, kind of way. Saying that he appreciates her optimism, Ezra comments that he thinks Aria needs to get her eyes checked. Ezra questions if Aria has heard from Oberlin, and Aria tells him no, she hasn’t yet, but maybe tomorrow. Ezra then asks if she’s heard from Mike since the funeral, and turning back to face him, Aria admits that she kind of lost track of Mike after the slap that was heard around the world. Aria questions why, and Ezra says that he was just wondering how Mike was doing, “Mona was a lot of complicated things, to a lot of different people, but she was just one thing to Mike”. Aria mentions that Mike loved Mona, and she was the one to screw it up, twice. When Aria says that Mike doesn’t want to talk to her about Mona, Ezra suggests that he could try, “could say that I need help with my bookshelves”. Aria comments that he does need help with his bookshelves, and with a smile, Ezra tells her that it’s a win-win.

With Mike in The Brew, Ezra comments that he didn't see him at the cemetery yesterday, “did you leave early?” Mike says that he guesses, to which Ezra tells him that he did, before asking if there’s a reason why. Mike mentions that it wasn’t a real funeral, and when Ezra questions that it wasn’t, Mike says that if there’s no body, there’s no funeral. Nodding, Ezra asks if that makes him upset, “I’m trying to get a sense of how this all makes you feel”, and Mike questions if Ezra looked all this up online. Mike adds that he feels as though he doesn’t want to talk Ezra about his dead girlfriend. When Ezra says that he wasn’t sure if Mike thought Mona was actually gone, Mike tells him that no one loses that much amount of blood and lives to tell the story. Ezra comments that Mike isn’t acting as if he’s lost someone, and turning to face him, Mikes asks Ezra how he wants him to act. After questioning whether Ezra wants him to cry his eyes out, or bang his fists on the wall, Mike says that Mona is gone, that’s it, people leave, people die, and that’s the only sure thing in this world.

Fresh Meat

Pretty Little Liars S05E15 Ezra

Ezra is one the phone with the caterer for The Brew’s relaunch party, “I understand that Andre, but scallops are not part of the budget”. When Aria walks over to him, Ezra tells her that Andre keeps putting him on hold. Aria says that he should tell Andre to stick to the original plan, to which Ezra tells her that that was like three plans ago. Noticing the book Aria is holding, Ezra tells her that the author is coming to the party tomorrow night, “you should really talk to him, he teaches at Vassar”. Ezra then questions whether Aria has heard from Vassar or not, and she tells him she hasn’t, not yet. Andre comes back on the line, and Ezra tells him that they need to go back to the original plan. Andre must ask why because Ezra says that “it’s a bookstore” and that nobody’s coming here for the tamarind dipping sauce. After questioning, “what?”, Ezra tells Aria and Emily that Andre just quit on him. Emily says that she can do it, and when Ezra asks, “do what?”, Emily tells him she can cater his party. Ezra questions if he missed something, before asking when she became a professional chef, to which Emily says she’s been helping her mom in the kitchen since she was could walk, and that Ezra should let her do it. Looking wary, Ezra listens as Aria tells him that she’s sure it will be amazing, and it’s not like Emily’s a stranger to The Brew’s kitchen. Emily adds that Ezra’s guests are going to be here in less than 27 hours, so they can either debate the issue or she could get started, stick to his budget, and blow him away, his choice. Ezra asks if Emily even took home economics, and after Aria gives him a look, Ezra apologises and tells Emily to “go for it”.

Walking into The Brew’s kitchen, Ezra overhears the last of Aria and Emily’s conversation where Aria says that she may not get to go to college next fall. After Emily says that she’s going to go call her mom, Ezra puts down the box and walks over to Aria. Holding the letter she has written to Talmadge College, Aria tells Ezra that she didn’t know how to tell him, but nobody wants her. Ezra tells her that that’s not true, “there are many, many, many great colleges that you can apply to in the future”, to which Aria says that she can write a better letter. Saying that she could write the Grapes of Wrath, Ezra tells her that it still wouldn’t matter, “Talmadge recently hired Jackie Molina as an admissions officer”. Aria questions if he means Jackie as in his ex, the one who hates her guts, and trying to lighten the situation, Ezra tells her that she forgot to mention that Jackie hates his guts even more. Ezra comments that he knows it hurt, “but it’s a temporary setback, that’s all. Promise”, before wrapping Aria in a hug.

Ezra walks into The Brew’ kitchen in the middle of the night while Emily is on the phone with her mom. Ending her phone call, Emily mentions that she thought Ezra went home to crash, to which Ezra tells her that he did, but he couldn’t sleep. Emily gathers that he’s nervous about tomorrow, only for Ezra to say that he swerved right past nervous and he’s into “full blown panic attack”. Ezra questions if they should be calling in some help, and when Emily asks what he means, Ezra tells her, “like a professional chef”. Emily wonders why, before saying that everything is totally under control, and that the food is going to be awesome. Saying okay, Ezra questions if they’re going to eating dinner off the walls, and looking over her shoulder, Emily explains that that was an experiment, but she’s just spoken with her mom, and Pam’s given her her famous empanada recipe. Ezra suggests that he can always call a restaurant, “or I can ask”…, but cutting him off, Emily tells him he shouldn’t, and there’s no need to panic, everything is going to be great.

Sampling some tapas, Ezra tells Talia that her food is truly amazing. When Ezra asks her what the spice is, Talia tells him that she’s so glad he likes it. As Emily walks in, Ezra tells her that he wants her to meet somebody, before introducing the women to each other. Emily questions what is going on, and Ezra explains that he asked Talia to help out tonight in the kitchen. When Emily says the she doesn’t understand, Ezra pulls her aside, “well I would just prefer that you come tonight as a guest”, but Emily says that she doesn’t want to be a guest. As Emily begins to say that Ezra hired her to, Ezra cuts her off, saying that he knows, “I think we can both relax knowing there’s a professional back there in the kitchen”. Saying that they should think of Talia like a saviour, Ezra adds he’s still going to pay Emily for the work she did last night. Emily mentions that it’s not just about last night, she was hoping she could become more than a barista, and Ezra comments that he didn’t realise, before adding that they can revisit that at a later date. Emily tells him fine, and that she has work to do, before walking off towards the kitchen.

At The Brew’s relaunch party, Ezra talks with Bob, the teacher from Vassar College.

Walking up to Aria when she arrives at the party, Ezra tells her that he’s been looking for her. Kissing Aria on the cheek, Ezra tells her that there’s somebody he really wants her to meet. With a hand on her lower back, Ezra guides Aria over to Bob, and gaining Bob’s attention, Ezra tells him that Aria is the young lady he was telling him about. Ezra explains to Aria that the man is Bob Milson, and that he teaches at Vassar, “I thought that one gifted writer would appreciate another”.

After saying goodbye to the final guests at the party, Ezra tells Talia that thanks to her, he’s royally screwed. Talia comments that she’s scared to ask why, and Ezra says that everyone is raving about her food. As Ezra questions what he’s going to do when he opens the place up, Talia tells him that he knows where to find her. Noticing Emily listening into the conversation, Ezra walks over to her once Talia has walked off. Saying that he doesn’t want Emily to feel “resentful or unappreciated”, but before he can finish, Emily tells him to hire Talia. Ezra questions, “what?”, and Emily tells him that she’ll get over it, besides Talia touch what she can do with a cappuccino.

Over a Barrel

Pretty Little Liars S05E16 Ezra

Walking into The Brew, Ezra notices some tension between Emily and Talia, and asks Emily if everything is okay with the two of them. Emily tells him that it is, they’re just defining job duties, and Ezra wonders if Emily wants him to say anything. Emily tells him that it’s okay, they’ll work it out, before she walks away from the counter. As Ezra’s phone rings, Aria approaches him, asking if they can talk, but cutting her off, Ezra explains that the contractor is calling him and he’s been trying to get hold of him all day, “I’ll be right back”. Walking into kitchen, Ezra tells the contractor that it’s because he disappeared for three days on another job, “and I’ll tell you what, when you get back to me, it better be with a refund cheque”. Ending the call, Ezra tells Aria, who followed him into the kitchen that the contractor is trying to charge him for the shelves he himself installed with Mike. Aria apologises and asks if she can do anything to help, but Ezra tells her no, “it’s alright”. As Aria begins to say something, Ezra questions if she had fun last night, “I think Bob Milson really liked you”, and that he knows Bob could speak to the admission staff at Vassar on Aria’s behalf, “it’s one phone call”. Aria tells Ezra that that would be great, and as Ezra’s phone begins to ring again, Ezra tells her he’s so sorry, but he has to take the call. Walking off, Ezra questions that the contractor can’t find the invoice, so he comments that he can send him his.

Sitting at one of the couches in The Brew, Ezra is going over some paperwork when Emily walks in. Noticing her, Ezra comments that “this time next week, I’ll have an actual office in the back”, before asking Emily if she’s here for her pay cheque. Saying that he thinks it’s over by the register, Ezra stands, and when Emily begins to say she can get it herself, Ezra tells her no, to let him get it as it’s his first pay day as boss, “I’m kind of looking forward to it”. Leaning over the front counter, Ezra looks through the pay cheque’s for Emily’s.

The Bin of Sin

Pretty Little Liars S05E17 Ezra

Ezra comments that he came as soon as he could when Aria opens the front door of the Montgomery house for him, “is everything okay?” As Ezra places his satchel down on an armchair, he listens as Aria tells him that everything’s fine, she just wanted to let him know she got into Talmadge. Ezra tells Aria that “that’s fantastic news”, before hugging her. As he’s pulling out of the hug, Ezra comments that it must mean Jackie doesn’t review every single application, and after noticing a look on Aria’s face, Ezra assures her that Talmadge is a very good school, “and it’s a big one. It’s unlikely you’ll ever run into Jackie”. Ezra then tells Aria not to let Jackie ruin this for her, and Aria says that she won’t. Saying that he’s so happy she told him, Ezra apologises to Aria telling her he has to get back to work, but they can celebrate tonight. After gathering his satchel, Ezra kisses Aria, and as he’s heading towards the door, Aria calls him back. Turning back, Ezra listens as Aria tells him that that’s not the only thing she wanted to talk to him about, before saying that Jackie did review her application. Ezra questions how she knows that, to which Aria admits she wrote a letter to the admissions board hoping that it would specifically land on Jackie’s desk, and it did. Confused, Ezra asks what letter Aria is referring to, and picking up the letter from the coffee table, Aria hands it to Ezra to read over.

After reading over the letter and commenting, “no wonder you got in”, Ezra listens as Aria assures him that she doesn’t blame him for being furious and that it was a really stupid thing to do and she realised that after she did it. As Ezra places the letter back on the coffee table, Aria goes on to say that she tried to get the letter back from Jackie but she’d already read it and it was too late, but cutting Aria off, Ezra tells her to stop, “I’m not angry”. Shocked, Aria questions that he’s not, and Ezra tells her it was a brilliant move, “Jackie must have laughed it up”. Taking Ezra’s hands, Aria tells him she’s sorry, but Ezra tells her she did what she had to do to get in. Ezra says that there was no harm done, and when Aria says that there was because she made Jackie believe she feels a certain way about him, Ezra mentions that he doesn’t care what Jackie thinks, “only what you do. And that is all that matters”. After Ezra pulls Aria in for a hug, Aria pushes out of it, commenting that she didn’t have to write the letter, before saying that she doesn’t even want to go to Talmadge, she was just scared if she didn’t get in she’d be stuck in Rosewood. Ezra comments that now Aria doesn’t have to worry, and after the two share a look, Aria walks back into Ezra’s embrace. Looking over Aria’s shoulder, Ezra eyes the letter.

Sitting in The Brew’s storeroom, which is serving as a makeshift office, Ezra rereads the letter Aria’s wrote to Jackie.

Sitting on the Montgomery’s couch, Ezra comments that Aria didn’t eat that much when they place their plates of takeout on the coffee table. After Aria mentions that she’d not that hungry, Ezra gets a present for her out of his satchel. When Aria questions what it is, Ezra tells her it’s something to celebrate her “getting into Talmadge”. Ezra watches as Aria opens the present to find a journal monogrammed with her initials, and after she says that it’s beautiful, Ezra tells her he remembers how excited he was when he got accepted to Hollis, “there are so many amazing adventures ahead of you, and I don’t want you to miss out on a single one… the way that you missed out on so much of high school because of me”. Aria says that she doesn’t actually feel that way, and when Ezra mentions that he read the letter again, Aria tells him that she only wrote what she thought Jackie wanted to hear. Ezra notes that he thinks the letter rang true to Jackie for a reason, and when Aria comments that it’s because she’s a good writer, Ezra just looks at her. When Aria says that she doesn’t understand, and that this morning he was practically laughing when he read the letter, Ezra explains that he then had a chance to think about it and he doesn’t think Aria could have written what she did if there wasn’t some small part of her that thought that way about them. Aria assures him that she doesn’t regret being with him at all, to which Ezra tells her that she may not now, “but if we stay together”… Aria questions Ezra’s use of the word if, and after Ezra just gives her a look, Aria wonders what Ezra is trying to say. Saying that he wants what’s best for her, Ezra reminds Aria that she’s approaching a very exciting time in your life, “you’re going to be meeting people. You’re going to be discovering yourself”. Cutting in, Aria tells him that she can do all that and still be with him, and after taking a moment, Ezra takes Aria hands, “if we stay together you might grow to resent me. But if you take this time for yourself, there will be no regrets”. Asking Aria to at least promise him that she’ll think about it, Ezra watches as a tear rolls down Aria’s cheek as she reluctantly nods and tells him that she will.

Out, Damned Spot

Pretty Little Liars S05E19 Ezra

Ezra is sitting on one of the couches when Emily walks into The Brew and questions that he’s doing paperwork on a Friday. Ezra tells her that he’s just trying to stay ahead of the game, “turns out I don’t get weekends off anymore”, to which Emily adds that you also don’t get summers off. Ezra then asks if Talia has already left, and when Emily tells her she has, she was just saying goodbye, Ezra comments that the two of them seem to be getting on a whole lot better these days. Emily then asks whether Ezra can believe that Aria might be in Savannah next year, before adding that they could have their very own Southern Belle. Surprised by the news, Ezra questions that Aria got into SCAD, and realises that Aria hasn’t told him, Emily says that she thought he knew as Aria’s pretty excited about it. Starting to sweep the floor, Emily says she’ll let Ezra get back to work, but it’s then that she notices Talia’s name on some paperwork and points out that Talia’s last name is Sandoval, so why does her file as Mendoza. Picking up the file, Ezra says that Mendoza may be her married name, “a lot of people use their maiden name professionally”, to which Emily insists that Talia is not married. Opening the file, Ezra says that she is, “she has her husband listed under her emergency contact”.

Walking into The Brew’s kitchen, Ezra asks Talia if everything is okay when Emily storms out.

Ezra looking at a book when an upset Hanna walks into The Brew, “Hanna, are you okay?” Instead of answering, Hanna asks where Emily is, to which Ezra tells her that she left early, “what’s going on?” Hanna tells him nothing, she just left her phone at her dad’s office and she can’t reach anyone, and when Ezra questions that she can’t go back and get it, Hanna tells him she can’t go back there. Saying that she doesn’t have to tell him anything, “but you can if you want to”, Ezra takes a seat at the other end of the couch when Hanna sits down. Ezra listens as Hanna says that her dad doesn’t think she’s college material, but Kate is. Hanna adds that her dad never thought she would go to a good school and now because of him she might not get to. Confused, Ezra asks who Kate is, and Hanna tells him Kate is her stepsister, her stupid, perfect stepsister. Hanna goes on to say that she wanted dad to help pay for school, but what she wanted more than that was for him to just look her at once and say ‘I knew you had it in you’. Ezra tells her that when he was in high school his parents couldn’t agree a single thing, “except for the fact that I wouldn’t amount to much”, and when Hanna asks him what happened, Ezra explains that once they cut him off, he realised that he was on his own, “I took out a bunch of loans, I applied to every job that I could no matter how ridiculous and I paid my way through school. By myself”. Ezra asks if Hanna knows those guys who stand outside in the hotdog uniforms in 90 degree heat, and after Hanna questions that he was a hotdog, Ezra tells her he was the “best damned hotdog”. Saying that he knows it isn’t the same, Ezra reminds Hanna that he used to be her teacher, “and I always knew that you had it in you”.

Standing behind The Brew’s counter, Ezra takes his phone back from Hanna who mentions that her call to Aria went straight to voicemail. Ezra wonders if Hanna wants to call someone else, “I have Emily’s number”, but Hanna says that it’s fine, she’s just going to head home. Saying “okay”, Ezra listens as Hanna thanks him for the image of him in a hotdog costume, and for everything else that he said, before Ezra tells her, “any time”.

To Plea or Not to Plea

Pretty Little Liars S05E22 Ezra

In The Brew, Ezra tells Emily that he never came across the name Varjak in any of his research. Ezra then questions whether they’re sure Alison didn’t know him, “Hanna found that Holly Varjak passport in her attic”, to which Emily explains that Alison said all that stuff was planted, and everything the lawyer gave them was a setup. Questioning whether it was a setup by Mona, Ezra listens as Emily says they don’t know, and that it could have been Mona or ‘A’. As Ezra looks away, Emily presses, asking if Ezra’s sure he’s never seen Varjak’s name in any of his research, before asking if Ezra can please go back and have a look. Ezra tells her that he would remember that name, and relenting, Emily says that she knows, but she promised Hanna she would help her and finding Varjak is their only hope as they have nothing else to go on. While Emily says that Alison and Hanna could be convicted and she or Aria could be next, Ezra is deep in thought, before questioning if Emily remembers the name of Mona’s lawyer. Emily thinks for a moment, before saying that his name was James Neilan, and when she asks why, Ezra mentions that Mona was working for ‘A’ at the time, “and I bet Neilan was in on it”.

Sitting in James Neilan’s office, Ezra listens as James tells him that before he considers franchising, he should open a second location in the Rosewood area, that way he can oversee it and build up the brand. Saying that it makes sense to do that first, Ezra listens as James tells him that if the second location is successful, franchising would be the next step. As James asks if Ezra has any specific questions about how his firm structures their deals, Ezra tells him no, “I have a few questions about Mona Vanderwaal”. Ezra asks James to confirm that Mona was a client of his, and when James wonders why Ezra is asking, Ezra says that he’s wondering why Mona hired him to deliver a package in the event of her death, “you’re not an estate lawyer”. James then wonders what this meeting is really about, and Ezra questions if Mona hired him, “or did someone pay you to lie and say that she did?” James says that they’re done, and as James starts to stand, Ezra comments that an innocent girl is accused of murder and he thinks that the person who really hired James killed Mona, “and if you just tell me who that is, you’ll save someone’s life”. Moving to his door, James tells Ezra he should leave before he calls security, to which Ezra tells James, “you can tell me or you can tell the police”.

Leaving James Neilan’s office, Ezra walks over to Emily and Aria, the latter of who has just arrived. Ezra and Aria greet each other, and as a silence falls between them, unsure of what to say to the other, Emily cuts in, questioning what James said to Ezra. Shrugging, Ezra says that James wouldn’t tell him anything. Aria notices James leaving his office, and telling Ezra and Emily to look, the three watch as James rushes from his office and gets into his car. Aria heads back towards her own car, and asking if Ezra and Emily are coming with her, Ezra and Emily share a look before getting into the car.

Following James Neilan out to a residence in the woods, Ezra comments that whoever lives here really wants to keep people out, as they watch James waits for a large double gate to open before he drives in. As Aria’s cell phone beeps with an incoming text, Ezra reads over it before asking Aria who Andrew is. Before Aria has a chance to answer, Emily tells them that they have to go, and after Emily gets from the car, Ezra and Aria share a look, before they to get from the car and run towards the closing double gates. The gates close before Ezra and Aria can get through, separating them from Emily. Emily comments that Ezra and Aria were behind her, and as Aria tells Emily to stay right there, Ezra mentions that he’s going to try and find another way onto the property. Looking around, Emily comments that it looks as though the fence goes around the whole place, before saying perhaps she could just take a look around. Ezra listens as Aria tells Emily no, they’re not letting her go in there by herself, to which Emily tells Aria she’ll be fine, but Ezra reminds Emily she has no idea whose in the woods or the house. Emily tells Ezra that by the time he and Aria find a way to get in the property, Neilan could be gone and he came here for a reason, and don’t they want to know what it is. Watching as Emily turns and heads down the gravel track, Ezra tells Aria to “come on” and they head down the boundary line to find a way in.

Walking along the boundary, Ezra listens as Aria mentions that Andrew has been helping her study and that’s why he was so excited to hear she did so well on the test. Saying that it’s good to hear that Andrew is supporting her, Ezra listens as Aria mentions that she needs to keep her grades up if she wants to keep her spot at SCAD, to which Ezra says that Emily mentioned that, “congratulations”. As Aria thanks him, Ezra says he’s surprised she didn’t tell him that herself, and Aria tells him that she meant to, but it’s been a crazy week. Saying that it’s good to know that she’s not avoiding him, Ezra listens as Aria wonders why she would, before suggesting that it’s probably best if they split up. Ezra looks towards Aria, and Aria explains that they’ll cover more territory that way. Listening as Aria tells him to call her if he finds a way in, Ezra just nods.

Meeting back up with Aria, Ezra tells her that he’s circled the entire property, “there’s no way we’re getting over that security fence”, to which Aria tells him that she’s calling Emily.

Ezra listens as Aria mentions that Emily’s not picking up, and noticing the double gates open, Ezra and Aria duck behind the bushes. Watching as James Neilan leaves the property, Ezra and Aria come out of hiding when they notice Emily follow the car out. Emily tells them that it’s Varjak’s house, and when Ezra questions that Neilan is Varjak, Emily says no, but Neilan is working for Varjak. Aria’s cell phone beeps, and when she reacts to what she’s read, Emily questions what the message said, to which Aria tells Ezra and Emily that Hanna’s been arrested.

At the Rosewood Police Department, Ezra listens as Caleb tells Aria and Emily that they have to show Tanner all of the pictures and all of the texts on their phones. Ezra then notes that if the girls do, Tanner will have no choice but to believe Hanna. Emily says that should wait for Spencer to get back in the morning, before her and Aria’s cell phones beep with an incoming text. Emily reads the text aloud, “let’s all start with a clean slate. –A”, before Aria comments that all the text ‘A’ sent her are gone. Emily notes that hers are as well, and when Caleb questions that they’ve got nothing to help Hanna, Emily says that there is one thing. Ezra listens as Emily says she found a receipt at Varjak’s, and handing it Ezra, she explains that the receipt doesn’t just have his name on it, it also has his phone number. Ezra concludes that either Varjak is ‘A’, “or Varjak is working for A”, but nonetheless, “this could help Hanna”.

Sitting down on a park seat next to Aria, Ezra listens as Aria thanks him for meeting her, before he mentions that he brought her a muffin, “I can’t promise it’s any good because I’m trying out this new chef”. As Aria takes the muffin, Ezra wonders if Aria figured out when she’d be able to see Hanna, to which Aria tells him that it won’t be for a few days as she still needs to be fully processed. Aria then mentions that she couldn’t sleep at all last night, she just kept thinking about how scared Hanna must be all alone in there. Saying that Hanna’s really strong, “I think she’s going to be okay until her mom gets her out on bail”, Ezra listens as Aria says that’s if Ashley gets her out on bail. A silence falls between them, and breaking that silence, Aria mentions that yesterday Ezra asked if she’d been avoiding him. Ezra comments that they don’t have to talk about this now, but Aria tells him that she needs to, and seeing him made her realise that. Ezra listens as Aria admits that she has been avoiding him, because she knows that when she says what she’s about to say, there’s no taking it back. Ezra nods, and as Aria says that Ezra was right, Ezra turns to face her. Aria goes on to say says that she did miss out on a lot of high school because of their relationship, and although she doesn’t regret any of it, she thinks that when she goes away to college, she should be single. Taking a moment, Ezra tells her that she’s making the right choice, “but if we’re going to end it, I think we should do it now”. Saying that the past few weeks have been so difficult, “not knowing where we stood”, Ezra notes that it’s going to be so much harder if they’re just counting down the days until Aria goes. Listening as Aria comments that she can’t imagine her life without him, Ezra tells her that she doesn’t have to, “I want you in mine too”. As Ezra adds that they’ll figure something out, Aria takes his hand.

I'm a Good Girl, I Am

Welcome to the Dollhouse

Pretty Little Liars S05E25 Ezra

Walking into Toby’s apartment behind Toby, Ezra listens as Toby explains that Caleb got into the PD’s command centre, before Caleb says that he cross checked the van’s GPS system with the PD’s system. As Caleb points to the location of where the signal went dead on the computer screen, Toby comments that it’s on Route 30 near the railroad crossing. Listening as Caleb adds that that’s when ‘A’ hacked into the van’s computer system and took remote control of the vehicle, Ezra deduces that ‘A’ would have needed to be in the area to keep the van on the road, to which Toby notes that the overpass would have given ‘A’ a clear view and given cover from the deputies. Ezra then wonders if there are any traffic cameras in the area that Caleb can hack into, and Caleb says that he’s one step ahead. As Caleb says that he backing up the footage now, Ezra notes that one from of ‘A’ is all they need.

Watching Caleb’s computer screen, Ezra listens as Caleb notes that the traffic cam footage should be coming up. As the video footage comes up on the screen, Ezra questions that you can’t get to the overpass without passing a camera, but neither Toby nor Caleb answer him. As the traffic cam footage turns into a cartoon, Toby questions what has happened, before Caleb mentions that ‘A’ found a way to overwrite the camera. Ezra seethes that ‘A’ is mocking them with a “damned cartoon”, and when he smashes his fist into a wall, Caleb asks if Ezra is okay. Toby tells Ezra he’ll get him some ice for his hand, but Ezra exclaims that he doesn’t need ice, “I need to find Aria and we’ve got nothing. Nothing”. Caleb then says that if he finds the right code he may then be able to write a program that’ll pinpoint the source of the hackers signal, and that’s all they need to prove to Tanner that ‘A’ took control of the van.

Ezra and Caleb are seated at the computers when there’s a knock on Toby’s apartment door. Toby goes to answer it, and when he does, the three guys listen as Peter and Veronica Hastings announce that they know about ‘A’.

Ezra listens as Veronica tells himself, Toby and Caleb that they need to tell the other girls parents what they know, and agreeing, Ezra explains that they were hoping to have some more answers before they do that. Peter questions why they can’t take the information they have to the police, to which Toby mentions that everything they give Tanner she twists to fit her own theory. When Veronica suggests that they take their case to the media, Peter says he could call Angela King at the Philadelphia Press, but Caleb steps in, saying that with what they know about ‘A’ that just isn’t the right move. Veronica then questions what the guys do know about ‘A’, and Ezra says that everything they know is in the boxes on the table behind Veronica and Peter, “and there are about a dozen more in a storage unit”. Looking from the boxes to Peter, Veronica wonders how they didn’t see this happening again, to which Toby says that forcing the girls to keep things from them is what ‘A’ does best. Walking over to the boxes, Peter suggests that if they look at all the information together they might find something the guys missed, but Ezra says that before Peter does that, he should know that ‘A’ didn’t just pry on the girls, “your secrets are in there too”, and if Peter decides to open the boxes he should prepare for those secrets to come out. As Veronica tells Peter that there shouldn’t be any more secrets, Ezra’s cell phone beeps, and reading the text, he mentions that the police are downstairs and they want to come up. Ezra listens as Caleb says that they’re there for him, and Peter points out that Toby is harbouring a fugitive, so he can’t be here when the police find Caleb. Caleb tells Ezra and Toby not to stop looking, and as he’s walking towards the door, Toby tries to go after him, but Peter calls him back. When Veronica’s cell phone rings, Ezra casts a look towards her.

At the scene where the missing van was located, Caleb and Ezra listens as Peter notes that this was the old Campbell farm, and Veronica adds that they used to bring the girls here to go apple picking.

Season 6

Game On, Charles

Ezra and Caleb successfully fake a call from A, to fool the police and get Alison out of the house. She joins them and it gets revealed that Alison's statement at the press conference was a message telling A to meet her at the Kissing Rock. Ezra and Caleb promise to follow Alison wherever A takes her, which will lead them to the girls.

After Ezra and Caleb followed Alison for a while, they arrive at the car only to find out that she is gone. They find a voice greeting card, which instructed Alison to leave everything behind and walk into the woods, or else 'they' die. The guys run into the woods after her. They find her and then start searching for the girls. After they can't find a track, they are sure 'A' tricked them and are about to leave, when they hear the fire alarm. Ezra tells Alison to call 911 and they find a door to the dollhouse. Caleb and Ezra finally open the door and the liars run out and Ezra comforts Aria, while the police arrives.

He tells her that she doesn't have to and assures that she will be safe at the Brew.

Ezra calls Andrew's doctor and pretents to be working for the Rosewood PD to get some information. He asks about Andrew's date and place of birth but doesn't get an answer. After Aria asks what they said, he reveales that Andrew was adopded.

Don't Look Now

Ezra joins Spencer, who is alone at the Brew. They talk about the current situation and Spencer tells him that it is strange to be back and people are staring at her, but they don't say anything. Ezra says that it is hard to find the right words. He assures that the police will be able to catch A for good, if they help them, but Spencer isn't sure about it. Sabrina breaks into the converstation to let Ezra know they ran out of blueberries. After she leaves again, Ezra tells Spencer that she's a good baker, even though she reeks of weed. Spencer questions him for hiring a junkie but he tells her that it is medicinal.

Later Ezra stops Spencer, who is about to leave the Brew with the pot brownies Sabrina gave to her. He asks what she is doing there so late. When she tells him that Sabrina made some cookies for her, Ezra immediately understands the situation. He tries to explain that when the effect of the brownies wear off, her problems will still be there. But Spencer doesn't listen and tells him that she needs to quieten the noise in her head to be able to sleep, then she leaves.

Aria Montgomery: (See "Ezria") Ezra and Aria first met at Hollis Bar & Grill where they had sex in the bathroom. Unbeknownst to Aria at the time, Ezra knew who Aria was and her connection to the missing Alison DiLaurentis, as he was writing a book about Alison. Ezra didn't expect to become Aria's high school English teacher, and he tried to end their relationship before it could progress any further. Aria had feelings for him and wanted more. Despite his initial protests, they started secretly dating and fell in love. Their relationship was used by A to blackmail Aria into doing whatever the mysterious stalker wanted. Their relationship went through many trial and tribulations, as they broke k up more than once, but kept rekindling. They tell her parents about their relationship, which both Ella and Byron wholly disapproved of. After a long time of sneaking around and concocting ruses to be together, Ella decided to try and understand their relationship better. They dated in the public eye for a long time, despite their off-and-on again status continuing for one reason or another. They broke up when Aria went to college because she wanted to be single during that period of her life and experience it like a normal student. Ezra and Aria were reunited five years later around the time Ezra's book was about to be published. After hooking up, Aria realized she still had feelings for Ezra and they got back together. Ezra proposed in "Along Comes Mary" and she accepted in "Wanted: Dead or Alive". They were married two-years later in "'Til Death Do Us Part" and adopted a daughter a year after that.

Nicole Gordon: (See "Ezricole") Ezra dated Nicole during the time jump when he wasn't with Aria at college. They were in love and held a close relationship that was suddenly ripped away from then when Nicole went missing on a humanitarian mission and presumed dead. It wasn't until two years later that Nicole was found alive in Columbia. They had an emotional and kiss that was broadcast on national television. She was happy for him when she learned about his engagement to Aria, but was upset when she read the book Ezra wrote about her disappearance. Nicole left Rosewood to attend an emotional rehab facility out of state, which permanently separated the pair.
