Season 1 is the premiere season of the Max series, Pretty Little Liars: ORIGINAL SIN. It was announced on September 24, 2020[2], with a straight-to-series order. Production began on August 23, 2021 and was scheduled to end in March 2022, but instead ended on May 2, 2022.[3][4] The series premiered with the first 3 episodes, on July 28, 2022.[1][5]

Twenty years ago, a series of tragic events almost ripped the blue-collar town of Millwood apart. Now, in the present day, a group of disparate teen girls — a brand-new set of Little Liars — finds themselves tormented by an unknown Assailant and made to pay for the secret sin their parents committed two decades ago, as well as their own. In the dark, coming-of-rage, horror-tinged drama Pretty Little Liars: Original Sin, we find ourselves miles away from Rosewood, but within the existing Pretty Little Liars universe — in a brand-new town, with a new generation of Little Liars.[2]

Storylines[]
Imogen Adams[]
Imogen is a final girl and true survivor. She drives the mystery of uncovering “A” as she fights for her life and the lives of her friends. She's a pregnant sixteen year old who returns to Millwood High School after her mother's tragic suicide, determined to redefine herself. She leans on her close friend Tabby Haworthe, whose mother takes her in. As their rivalry with Karen Beasley escalates, Imogen and the Little Liars take action in misplaced revenge, unknowingly falling prey to their twisted assailant A. Imogen becomes relentless in her quest to unmask A and the secrets that didn't die with Davie. She and Tabby learn they have more in common then they thought, as both were raped that year. They work together, with the help of the Little Liars and Kelly Beasley, to find their rapist using the DNA of Imogen's unborn baby. When the truth comes out, they confront their attacker and find a new type of justice. But when A makes his final move, the girls must face the sins of their mothers and their own bullies in a trial that leaves no stone unturned.
Faran Bryant[]
Faran is a poised, disciplined ballerina with aspirations to make it out of Millwood. But ‘A’ isn’t the only villain in Faran’s life. In the world of ballet, it is death by a thousand micro-aggressions.[6]

Mouse Honrada[]
Minnie is the youngest of the Little Liars. Having survived a childhood trauma, Minnie spends most of her time in a virtual world, but she is more than capable of taking on the dark forces of Millwood — including ‘A'.[6]

Production and Filming[]
Production began on August 23, 2021 in the Hudson Valley area of New York City. It was scheduled to end in March 2022.
On November 10, 2021, the cast and crew were spotted filming at the St. Mary of the Snow and the St. Joseph Roman Catholic Church in Saugerties, New York. The next day, there was a casting call posted for High school students age ranging from 18-27 for filming on the 11th and 12th. Many photos were released from November 12-13th with filming taking place at the former Ockawamick School in Claverack, the Basilica in Hudson, and again at St. Mary of the Snow and the former Ockawamick School.
On November 17, the crew were seen on the streets in the Saugerties area hanging Halloween decorations. Later on November 18, the cast and crew were seen rehearsing. On November 19, there were scenes filming at the Opera House and atop the Fair Street building in Kingston, New York. On November 24, the cast and crew were seen on the Millwood high sets, including Brian Altemus. From November 29 to December 2, the filming of episodes 4 and 5 resumed on the Millwood high sets and outside of the old Charles William school in Hudson, New York. Troian Bellisario was also seen on set on December 2, with speculations of directing an episode.
On December 9, Bailee Madison was seen filming with other cast members at the former St. Patrick's Academy in Catskill. On December 14, Maia Reficco was seen filming late night scenes in Saugerties. Later on the 17th, filming took place at Main Street Restaurant. It was also revealed that filming had taken place at the same location 15 days earlier on the 2nd, transforming the restaurant into the Millwood Pinball Pizza Shop.
After taking a break from filming for the holidays, from January 6-10 the cast and crew slowly returned to set. On January 16, there was filming done at the Radley Hotel, confirming that Scars was the episode filming there. Later on the 19th, Gabriella Pizzolo and Ava DeMary were seen on set. The next day, the cast filmed at the Kingston Point Beach in Kingston, New York. On the 19th, the crew filmed at the Phoenicia Market and Deli in Phoenicia, transforming it into a tattoo parlor. While the next day they filmed at Rough Draft in Uptown at the Crown and John intersection.
On January 21, it was revealed that the crew were still filming episodes 4, 5 and 6. On January 25, there was a casting call for yet another Halloween party. It was set in Saugerties, New York, possibly filming at the Charles William school.
On the 26th, there was a casting call for High school ballet dancers in Saugerties.[15] On February 3, an old bank in Catskill was used as the Millwood Police Station. The next day a casting call was posted for High school crowd/Carnival goers, ages 18-30, Rough looking carnival types, ages 30-75, and Minors (with NYS Performer Permits), ages 5-10, for filming days of February 15-17, 2022.
Later on February 21, 2022, a casting call was posted for Cops/EMTs, for filming days of February 24, 2022. A few days later on February 28, a casting call was posted for Blood drive students/Blood drive faculty, for a filming day of March 2, 2022 in Catskill, NY.[16] The next day a casting call was posted for Club goers, ages 18-35, for a filming day of March 3, 2022.[17]
The last four days of filming began on March 25, 2022. The date was a revised filming date. They filmed in Hudson on North Third Street outside the now former Charles S. Williams Memorial School. The episode in question will include exterior shots of the homes, exterior of the school, and include fake snow.[18]
On March 26th, filming commenced on Pine Grove Avenue in Midtown Kingston, NY.[19]
Filming for Season 1 wrapped on May 2nd, 2022.
Notes & Trivia[]
- Because of the nature of the series and its episode contents, a special hotline messaging system was set up for viewers to immediately contact a crisis hotline. Text 'Millwood' to 741741 for help.
- It was announced on September 24, 2020, at Max.[20]
- Rosewood exists within the Pretty Little Liars: Original Sin universe, with Easter Eggs sprinkled throughout the season, along with mentions of the town.[5]
- The Little Liars are expected to take a trip to Rosewood sometime in the series.
- In "Chapter Four: The (Fe)Male Gaze", Noa finds an Oxycodone pill bottle belonging to Caleb Rivers' in her mom's bag after searching it.
- It is also revealed from the pill bottle that Caleb now resides in Millwood instead of Rosewood.
- The Millwood High Tip Line is available to text for series updates in the weeks leading up to the series premiere, by texting (570) 755-6746, which is (570) PLL-OSIN.
- The "Bloody Red Carpet" world premiere event for the series took place on July 15, 2022, featuring a panel discussion with OG cast member Lucy Hale presiding. Newcomers Bailee Madison, Zaria, Chandler Kinney, Malia Pyles, and Maia Reficco were the panel guests.
- Bailee confirmed that the series dives into the horror element of the series. Lucy added that the series dives deeper into the various tropes of the horror genre and explores them from a uniquely female perspective.[21]
- 9 of the 10 episodes are directed by women.[21]
- Faran's storyline involves the challenges of being a black ballerina, and how her relationship with Henry helps her open up.[21]
- Bailee and Chandler created a ship name for their characters friendship, "Tabogen". They both wanted to know about their love stories this season, and the writers teased that Tabby and Imogen's relationship "might be something special".[21]
- Maia revealed that her character is most similar to Emily because they are both, "the athletes".[21]
- The Sisters of Quiet Mercy from Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa's flagship show Riverdale, was mentioned in "Chapter Six: Scars", an Easter Egg for the aforementioned series.
- However, Roberto confirms in the official twitter of PLL: OS there won’t be a PLL Original Sin and Riverdale crossover, the show would a remain slasher and there won’t be any supernatural plot in the future seasons.
