Karen and Kelly often switched places, pretending to be the other to fool their teachers or parents.

Starting Millwood High, Kelly became the second most popular girl, and her sister became the queen bee. While growing up with her sister, they became friends with former cheerleader and party girl Imogen Adams. Her sister's death immense waves of despairing wallow and guilt. Nonetheless, despite being the mastermind of the Spirit Dance stunt, Kelly never blamed Imogen or her newfound friends for Karen's death, nor did she seek out further retribution like her father. Rather, she punished herself by self-harming. No one at her home life made her feel safe or alleviated her guilt, which amplified them ten-fold. She found a surprisingly safe person in Faran, who offered her a person to talk to for the first time. Through that connection, Kelly makes friends with the other girls, who eventually welcome her into their group. She found her voice against Tom, spoke up for herself, and tried to save her friends.

Trivia[]

  • In the original Pilot draft of the series, Kelly was named Sharon.[2]
  • Kelly Beasley, is very similar to Hanna Marin and Mona Vanderwaal from Pretty Little Liars. Kelly and Hanna are blonde girls with problems with their parents who lived in the shadow of their sister or stepsister. Hanna, Mona, and Kelly became queen bees or "clones" of the former queen bee, with Kelly becoming Karen and Hanna and Mona becoming Alison. Kelly is also an outsider within the group like Mona was, having little interaction with the group after her initial induction.
    • However, the difference is that the Little Liars tried to contact Kelly but after her father's death Kelly left school and lost contact with her friends. While Mona was more disowned by the Liars due to her past with them.
  • According to Mallory Bechtel, there are two methods she used to differentiate the twins: Karen always wears heels as opposed to Kelly who wear flats, and Karen listens with her mouth open while Kelly keeps hers shut.
    • During dinner, when their father is on a tirade, "Karen" is listening with her mouth closed, and "Kelly" is listening with her mouth open.
    • After "Karen's death," her corpse is shown wearing flats.
    • After Karen's funeral, Kelly is shown wearing heels, and listens to her father's drunken tirade with her mouth open.
  • Kelly has a scar on her foot, where Karen had been pierced with the razor blade.
    • Madame Giry tells Faran that Kelly has scars due to her cutting herself in the past.
  • Kelly unofficially joined The Little Liars in Chapter Eight: Bad Blood, though she didn't find out about A's antics or become involved in the true nature of the group until Chapter Ten: Final Girls. Her brief involvement in The Trial and later its aftermath confirms her status as the sixth Little Liar.[3]

Alison manipulated her family to believe Courtney was insane and dangerous, forcing them to send her to a mental institution. In a desperate attempt at freedom did Courtney switch places with Alison behind the latter's back, inadvertently setting up the events that would lead to the infamous disappearance of "Alison".
    • Courtney, like Kelly, are the good twins. Both even posed as their respective twin. In addition to being blonde, light-eyed and Caucasian.
