— Noa to the girls
|
The Little Liars, also called The Liars or The New Sinners, is a nickname for a group of six students at Millwood High School. The members included Imogen Adams as the "leader", Tabby Haworthe, Noa Olivar, Mouse Honrada, Faran Bryant, and Kelly Beasley.
They are so named for being the next generation of Liars to be targeted by a new A. The six girls were forced together through their shared experiences with A, becoming friends overtime.
Series
On Monday, September 28th, 2022, five unsuspecting teenagers at Millwood High School receive differing text messages from an unknown number. While sitting in literature class, a pregnant Imogen Adams looks at the window per her text's instructions, to see a figure wearing a burlap mask and overalls, staring at her from across the campus. On Wednesday, September 30th, the same teenagers, Imogen Adams, Tabby Haworthe, Faran Bryant, Noa Olivar, and Mouse Honrada, are each punished for various attacks against Karen Beasley, Millwood High's resident mean girl. After realizing they are all innocent of their crimes, and believing Karen set them up, the girls decide to get revenge by "killing her"[5] reputation. Imogen has an embarrassing video of Karen on her phone that Tabby offers to project at The Orpheum, edited together a certain way so students won't have time to record it.
That night, each of the girls are either reprimanded or confronted by their parents, who were notified of their individual indiscretions against Karen. As they head to bed for the evening, each of the girls receives a text message with an accompanying video, showing a gloved assailant (whom they assume is Karen) committing each of the acts the Little Liars were accused of. The most horrific of all being Mouse's video, where the perpetrator suctioned the air out of a rat's cage, slowly killing it of asphyxiation. The girls video chat to discuss the videos, and agree that Karen is an insecure, racist, homophobic person, who won't stop being those things for the rest of high school. They have to take her down.
On Thursday, October 1st, the Little Liars spread word about Tabby's double feature at The Orpheum and conspire to ensure that Karen attends. Tabby enlists the help of her friend and co-worker Chip to project the video. That night, they air Karen's video, unaware that the true masked assailant is attending from behind a curtain. The video starts with a campaign video to Vote Karen for Queen. It rolls into the video from that night. Karen is drunk and demands affirmation that she's “so fucking hot”. The boy behind the camera wants to see how she is. Karen can't believe that Greg kissed that slut when he has her. The asshole couldn't even stay hard enough to have sex properly. Karen continues to berate Greg while goading the boy into revealing himself. He agrees to show her but only if she shows him first. In the theatre, Karen becomes emotional and leaves the theatre. The video cuts off to show the rest of the campaign, as Karen runs out of the theatre crying. Outside, the Liars wonder if they did the right thing, agreeing they held up a mirror to show everyone who Karen is.
The next day, Friday, October 2nd, Kelly, posing as her sister Karen, visits Principal Clanton and takes responsibility for trashing her own posters. As such, Imogen is let off the hook for her indiscretion, which means she's allowed to run for Spirit Queen. She goes to the Little Lairs who have assembled. Imogen is panicking so Tabby assures her they have her covered. Imogen becomes emotional so the girls usher her into the bathroom.
Imogen tells them about Clanton's “like mother, like daughter” statement. She is nothing like her mom. Her mom would have taken a hammer to the phone, not keeping it for months. The girls assure Imogen that she's not a bad person, with Imogen admitting she's not going to the Spirit Week dance. The girls decide to go together in support of one another.
Saturday, on the night of the dance, the girl's arrive at Imogen's door. The group gets ready together by dancing, doing their makeup, and hair, and getting dressed. They talk about their favorite dance movies. Imogen admits she's going to find Karen that night and apologize. She's going to give Karen her crown or at least try to. The girls agree to help her.
They arrive at the dance and fan out to find Karen. They aren't successful so they each dance with their crushes or boyfriends. Imogen stands off by herself until the girls walk over to Imogen and Tabby extends her hand first, inviting her to have the dance. She accepts and Tabby leads her to the dance floor, twirling her around. The group dances happily as their boy's watch, later joining them.
Clanton takes the stage to announce Millwood High's Spirit Queen. He calls Imogen Adams to the stage to accept her crown. A spotlight finds her and the crowd cheers loudly. She ascends the staircase to the stage. Clanton places the crown atop her head. Faran sees Karen in the rafters and nudges Tabby, who in turn, gets the attention of the other Liars. They try to scream for Imogen to look up. Shawn gets involved too. Karen smiles maniacally from the rafters as she inches the bucket closer to the edge. Imogen turns to look up at the balcony. She sees a man approach Karen wearing a full-body suit - it's A. Karen starts to look behind her but it's too late, A has ahold of her. He wrestles with her for a moment before pushing her over the balcony. Karen falls to her death with a loud squishing noise on the stage below. The partygoers begin to scream and run-in different directions. Imogen stands still, too dazed to move. A pool of blood inches closer to her shoes. The Little Liars all get texts at the same time. It ominously says that one bully is down, but there are five more to go. Keep quiet about him, or they will all be next. The message is signed with -A. Imogen looks up to see A looking over the balcony at her. Karen's dead body lays on the stage, blood seeping out of her face as her eyes stare blankly ahead.[6]

Storylines
- Imogen Adams - A sixteen-year-old pregnant teenager who returns to Millwood High after her mother's tragic suicide, determined to redefine herself. She leans on her close friend Tabby Haworthe, whose mother has taken her in. As their rivalry with Karen Beasley escalates, Imogen and the Little Liars take action in misplaced revenge, unknowingly falling prey to their twisted assailant "A". Imogen is relentless in her quest to unmask A and the secrets that didn't die with Davie. Following their defeat of "A", Imogen seeks to recover from her trauma by attending therapy and getting a new job. Her attempts are thwarted by the arrival of a new villain, Bloody Rose, who knows exactly how to trigger and test Imogen to the brink.
- Tabby Haworthe - An aspiring director and horror film enthusiast, Tabby isn't afraid to demand the space she needs to thrive. She befriends Imogen when the girl moves into the Haworthe House. She is determined to help her newfound friend find answers about Angela Waters, Davie's death, and the unhinged stalker targeting them.
- Noa Olivar - A striving track star who's working hard to get her life back to normal after a summer spent in juvenile detention. She navigates life with an ankle monitor while trying to be the best girlfriend she can to Shawn. When the torturous A enters her life, Noa must rely on her new friends to survive. She keeps a secret from her friends, using it to leverage the esteemed Sheriff Beasley, though even that isn't strong enough to save her from what "A" has in store.
- Faran Bryant - She is a poised, disciplined ballerina with aspirations to make it out of Millwood. But “A” isn’t the only villain in Faran's life. In the world of ballet, it is death by a thousand microaggressions. She strives to show her worth to Madame Giry while helping her new friends navigate the intensity of A's wrath.
- Mouse Honrada - The youngest of the Little Liars and a recluse due to her mom's overbearing nature, Mouse is desperately trying to become her own person despite her childhood trauma of nearly being kidnapped while at the Millwood Carnival. She spends most of her time in a virtual world, but still tries to help the other girls unmask A.
- Kelly Beasley - Kelly is the last of the Liars to join the group, being on the outskirts of things as she navigates the world of Millwood High after the loss of her mean twin sister, Karen. She is more reserved and comparatively kinder than her more domineering sister. Underneath her quiet exterior lies a darker side to her, more like her twin than she lets on. She exhibits the same levels of manipulation and can execute well thought schemes of revenge when angered. Thus, Karen’s death didn’t mean the end of the school mean girl. In fact, her similarities to Karen made Faran initially believe the twins had swapped places one final time, until it became clear to her that wasn't the case. Kelly's life continues to spiral as her abusive father is outed as a rapist, leading him to take his wife and daughter hostage in their home in an attempted murder-suicide. He is murdered when Kelly's mother turns on him in act of maternal protection. Kelly's attempts to save her newfound friends from A's twisted trial lands her a place amongst them. However, she isolates herself from them when news of the Millwood Massacre spreads. She joins a church group and partakes in an event called Redemption House. Her actions within the play lead her friends to forsake their friendship. However after Kelly is attacked by Bloody Rose and is saved by Faran. Kelly who was given a second chance at life realizes the error of her ways, apologizing to the rest of the little liars re-solidify their friendship once more. During the mini time jump it’s shown that Kelly has gotten matching tattoo with all other girls to signify that they’re survivors.

Trivia
- Unlike The Liars from Pretty Little Liars, majority of these girls were not friends before they were targeted by "A". Instead, they were brought together by "A" and became friends over time.
- Each of the Little Liars could be seen as the "equivalents" of one of The Liars from Pretty Little Liars.
- Imogen Adams is very similar to Spencer Hastings, Alison DiLaurentis and Hanna Marin. Imogen, like the three girls, was once part of the popular clique at their respective schools. Imogen, like Alison, is a pretty and blonde leader of the group of Liars who was popular at one point in time before falling from grace. She is also intellectual like Spencer, with both girls being the investigators of their groups. And Imogen, like Hanna, redeemed herself after a trauma by competing to be Spirit Queen.
- Tabby Haworthe can be a parallel of Aria Montgomery. Both are artistic girls who have a hobby in something literary. Tabby is a lover of movies while Aria is a lover of books and writing. The relationship between Tabby and Wes is comparative to that of Aria and Ezra Fitz. However, Wes's storyline is shown in a more realistic light, with Tabby being uncomfortable by the advances Wes makes on her, as he's significantly older. This contradicts the romantic overtones of Ezra and Aria's relationship. Both men also held the power dynamic in the relationships, as Wes was Tabby's boss and holds connection to NYU, while Ezra was once Aria's teacher.
- Noa Olivar is very comparable to Emily Fields. Both are star athletes and members of a sports team at their school with a secret feelings to a girl. Both have had problems with their mothers and have been in some drug related problem. However, Noa's troubled past with drugs and juvie is similar to that of Caleb Rivers and Toby Cavanaugh.
- Faran Bryant, is very similar to Spencer Hastings. She has a competitive nature, complicated maternal relationship, and a desire to be perfect like Spencer. Both characters also had a deep medical-based secret withheld from them.
- Mouse Honrada is similar to Mona Vanderwaal. Like Mona, Mouse has trouble socializing with her classmates and desires to be part of a group of friends. They were both victims of bullying by their high schools "queen bee" and were given derogatory nicknames (Rodent and Loser Mona) by their bullies. Additionally, both are technologically savvy.
- Kelly Beasley, is very similar to Hanna Marin and Mona Vanderwaal. In respects to Hanna, both are blonde girls with problems with their parents who lived in the shadow of their sister or stepsister. Hanna, Mona, and Kelly became queen bees or "clones" of the former queen bee, with Kelly becoming Karen and Hanna and Mona becoming Alison. Kelly is also an outsider within the group like Mona was, having little interaction with the group after her initial induction. However, the difference is that the Little Liars tried to contact Kelly but after her father's death Kelly left school and lost contact with her friends. While Mona was more disowned by the Liars due to her past with them.
- The group is never called "The Little Liars" directly in the series, though Sheriff Beasley comes the closest by calling them "Little Lying Bitches". The term "The Little Liars" was created by the fandom prior to the series' release after the descriptions for each of the girls - with the exception of Kelly - referred to them as a "Little Liar".
- Kelly Beasley unofficially joined the group in "Chapter Eight: Bad Blood", though she didn't find out about A's antics or become involved in the true nature of the group until "Chapter Ten: Final Girls". Her brief involvement in The Trial and later its aftermath confirms her status as the sixth Little Liar.
- As of "Chapter Ten: Final Girls", Faran is the only Little Liar who isn't chased or involved in an isolated violent confrontation with A.
- Noa was attacked at her apartment building, Mouse in the Hall of Mirrors, Tabby at The Orpheum, and Imogen, most notably, after The Trial.
- Kelly was attacked in Chapter Six: Scars before she officially joined the group, because -A held the impression she was her sister whom he killed.
