Hey guys,
I'm currently working on a play (I write it) that is based on Pretty Little Liars. If I manage to finish it in time I will be the director too. So.. I have already changed a lot of things to make it more unique to our group and also to put some distance between our play and the original series/books. I'm just going to tell you some major things.
I have reduced the Liars from 4 to 3 girls. Emily was kind of left out but her lesbian storyline will be given to one of the other girls. It goes like this. The play begins with a funeral. Three girls mourn their dead friend, who committed suicide (she shot herself and there is a suicide note). They leave the graveyard thinking about why she did it and suddenly they all get a message that will be something like "I got rid of her. And guess what, you're next. -X". I didn't want to stick with A, but I also thought it had to be kind of a special letter, so I decided to make it X. X also stands for the unknown, so it kind of fits. So that message reveals their friend didn't commit suicide. She was murdered. Now everything goes from there. They all have secrets of their own but also share one secret as a group (like the Jenna Thing) which is what X uses to make them do what she/he wants. Other key points I already figured out are the following:
- at the end of Act I they find out who killed their friend -> I plan on it being a character similar to Lucas
- Act II focuses on proving that he's guilty, which eventually leads to him confessing the murder and getting sent to a mental institution (or juvie, have to think about that)
- the girls feel safe and the X-texts stop
The very last scene will most definitely be a flashback. I intend to show the girl's last moment and how she was killed. So we see a room with her sitting at a table, crying and writing something. Next to her there is a masked person who is holding a gun against her head. He/she dictates what to write for the suicide note. The girl tries to escape and manages to unmask the person, which is then revealed to be the one that later confesses the murder (the Lucas character). He gains back the control over her and is ready to shoot her, but hesitates. He says something like "I can't do it. I can't." Suddenly another masked person comes out of the shadow and shoots her in the head. The girl is dead. So the guy who confesses the murder actually didn't do it and the girls are not yet safe. The very last moment of the play is supposed to be the following: The second person takes off the mask and is revealed to be.. ONE OF THE GIRLS. I have thought about who that person should be for so long and then I figured that with it being one of the girls the audience will be shocked the most, which is what I want to achieve.
Soooooo.. I need your help with the following:
- What do you think about the stuff that I already have?
- What do you think should happen in Act I?
- How should the girls find out, that the Lucas character is the murderer?
- What major secret do the girls share (Jenna Thing)?
- What should happen in Act II (except for the confession)?
- What else do you think about after hearing what I'm working on?
HELP ME. THANKS. :)
