In episode 14 of season 3, the Liars sneak into the new school janitor's office (Harold Crane, who was also the innkeeper of the Lost Woods Resort). Lots of the things from Mona's lair are in his office, including Ali's diary, which Harold had been writing in earlier that day.
This was written in Ali's diary:
I don'T know abouT you buT I have really missed geTTing To know you all The Time. That's why I Took This job aT your school. IT's noT easy when someone you feel close To jusT suddenly disappears from your life. AlThough I have To say, iT seems To happen To me a loT. Since I was liTTle really. I Think That people like me and Then They're jusT gone. But I don'T wanT To bore you wiTh all ThaT. All I'm Trying To say is ThaT I miss you.
I know you Think I'm jusT some guy who geTs you Things and cleans up afTer you... ThaT's noT all ThaT I... Where were all of your friends while you were sTaying aT The hoTel? Who was There for you? NoT Them. IT was me, Harold. It was always me. Whenever you were feeling down and jusT needed someone To bring you a cup of Tea iT was me who Took care of you. If you goT sick, I did...
I'm noT very good aT .... Thing... ThaT There... buT I Think [There was some]Thing beTween us. [We were] friends, righT? [Who] knows, maybe in Time [iT will] Turn inTo someThing [more]. I saved some of your Things and wanT To give Them back To you. I wanT To Talk [To you], Too. I wanT us To go somewhere where we can [have] a real Talk abouT who [you] are and who you [wanT To be], and how I can be aparT of ThaT. If you are in Trouble, I can [help]. If you've done someThing...
I don'T care. WhaTever iT is I'm sure you had a good reason. You're so perfecT ThaT you would only do someThing bad if you had To, or if someone really deserved iT. WhaT I'm Trying To geT aT is ThaT you don'T have to preTend to be someThing you're noT around me. WhaTever you are is okay. I wanT Things To be The way They were. I really [do].
When you're ready To [Talk] ... To find...
...friends, righT? ...who knows maybe in ... iT could Turn inTo [some]Thing more. I [saved] some of your Things and I wanT To give Them back To you, buT I also wanT To Talk To you Too.
Sometimes you can't see a person for who they are until you get to know them and then once you know them you see that they are really really good inside and then you ... to spend time with them like as a date and then maybe after a date you want to get married and have ... I have always thought that I ... wonderful daddy because I ... daddys to learn from. Mostly ... not to do.
Because my dads were mostly mean to me so I know ... not to be mean to my babies. Our babies when we have them.
The handwriting shares many distinct features with the handwriting seen in many A notes (e.g. capitalized Ts). The handwriting changes for that last couple paragraphs. This could have been planted by A trying to frame Harold, however the Liars don't even notice it and it was never addressed further.
The person who wrote the note seems to be clueless about normal social behaviour. His letter quickly progresses from being "friends, right?" to going on "a date" to getting "married and having babies". He says that he thinks he would make a good "daddy" because his fathers were mean to him. He seems desperate to have a happy family with babies. A is obviously obsessed with dolls. In the promo for the season 5 finale, there is a framed picture of a doll family.
He seems to be obsessed with Mona enough that he would do anything she asked of him. Maybe he has been helping her ever since she created a lair at the Lost Woods Resort.
I don't know how this could tie into the storyline, but I feel it can't be a mere coincidence. Does anyone have any theories about Harold's involvement with the A game?
