So after 7x10 aired some people on Instagram made me notice that a lot of people were just confirmed not to be A.D., because all of them were together. A.D. took Jenna out of that blind school.
Spencer, Aria, Hanna, Emily, Alison and Mary were still together then. Toby and Yvonne had a car accident. Ezra and Nicole are still in Columbia. Noel's dead and Jenna obviously also isn't Uber A.
This leaves us with a very limited amount of characters. One of which is Mona. People got very suspicious of how Noel was able to free himself and Mona was the only one who knew where he was. Marlene confirmed Jenna was anonymously working with/for A.D. so I guess Noel was too. So maybe they were Mona's tools and she let Noel go so he could fulfill his purpose.
So this got me thinking about what happened since the time-jump and Mona being A.D. kind of makes sense. Right in the beginning (including the special scene of the 5 Years Forward special episode) Mona was curious about what Charlotte will do if/when she gets released. She seemed worried about her past secrets getting out. But then she decided to tell the judge that Charlotte should be allowed to go home. And until this day I never understood why she did it. Because later on, when it is revealed that she wanted to meet Charlotte at the Two Crows, she told Emily (AGAIN) that it was about secrets that Charlotte knew and that should be kept. If she was so scared for her reputation being threatened by possible revelations about her past, why would she speak in favor of Charlotte's release in the first place? It doesn't really make sense.
Sorry this is getting so long, but picture this: Mona was always obsessed with the game. It never stopped. She shared it with Charlotte for a while but then she was pushed away. And since then Mona always said that A was better at playing the game than she was. And after Charlotte was revealed, she said it again. I always wondered why Mona stayed behind in 6x10 and "wanted to know how the story ends." BECAUSE SHE WAS FASCINATED BY CHARLOTTE AND THE GAME. And ever since she wasn't A anymore, she tried to be smarter than A. She thought she could fool A and find out the identity, but was then kidnapped. She tried to be smarter in the dollhouse but never actually was. And when they cracked the lock (with Sara's BTS knowledge honestly) she said "See, we are smarter than Charles." and she had this victorious look on her face. In that special Alison/Mona scene from inbetween the time jump, she also refers to Charlotte being better at the game, than she was.
Mona seems so normal to us, but what if she never truly got better? What if she is still very much obsessed with the game, very much mentally damaged? So she never feared for her reputation. That was just her excuse for wanting to see Charlotte or get close to her. What she actually wanted, was to get Charlotte to play the game again. So that's why she spoke in favor of her release and wanted to meet her the first night she was out. So when Charlotte was killed, Mona decided to find out who did this to her potential partner in crime and started being A.D.
Mona hasn't been in much episodes lately, she only appears every once in a while to "fix things" and help the girls, but we never really know what she is doing all the time, when she's not in the episodes. Like why is she still around, even though she doesn't have a job anymore AND is not helping the girls regularly? Why is she always tracking like EVERYONE? So she fixed the car and later on found the phone, but what if she is only doing that to hide the fact that she is also the one blackmailing the girls with what they did? Obviously she would choose A.D. for "Alison Dilaurentis", just like she chose "A" for Alison back in the beginning.
I think it would make enormous sense for it to be Mona and although I get the feeling that it would be boring, because she has been A before, with the right storytelling this is actually one of the best ways it could go now. It WOULD bring the show full circle, if Mona turned out to be the ultimate bad and she always has been. She was A in the beginning and she is A.D. in the end. Mona is my favorite character ever and I think it would fit her so well and would truly make her a legend sort of.
PS: The episode Troian directed is titled "In the Eye Abides the Heart", just like the song Mona sang in Season 3, when she was in Radley. Hmm..
Love this....if they play it out right it could be really good but if they can't give genuine reasons for Mona being AD then it could fall flat and end up with us all being disappointed. I'm stuck between wanting Mona to be good and her being bad. I think she's a brilliant character (she's one of my faves) and could easily play the ultimate big bad (AD) really well. If the reason was that she just enjoyed the game I'm not sure that would work though. I always want her to be smarter than everyone else and one step ahead ( which she does seem to be and is why I think she has something to do with everything).

Not really, I like Mona as a Liar herself and being a friend to Hanna, Aria, Spencer, Emily and even Alison and the rest of the crew. I've enjoyed seeing her evolution from Nerdy Mona, Popular Mona, A-Mona, Crazy Mona, frenemie-Mona to full-fledged friend of the girls.
I personally feel that the producers/showrunners would be smarter than to make Mona A again, like it would so repetitive. Plus none of the Uber A endings of each episode since 6B pointed to Mona. But I DO find your reasoning to be quite solid, honestly. Maybe she did envy Charlotte and being M.I.A. in the recent episodes really does mean that she could've been doing 'A' related things.

I'm also torn between Moa being good or evil. It's just the theory that makes the most sense to me currently. So I thought about it and wrote the blogpost.
I think its just that for some reason the writers and producers don't care much for Mona which is why Janel ends up missing so many episodes. They treat Sasha similarly but to a lesser degree since she's usually only absent 1-3 episodes a season.
I'm also someone who's torn between bad and good Mona. I really do love Monas character and until this post I didn't even really realize she was absent a lot! I wouldn't mind as redrice said Mona pulling the strings from the beginning and being the mastermind of things! And all your reasons in the original posts are actually very convincing and I could definitely see it happening. Especially because she has shown up on the scene to save the day so randomly, like how did she know about Archer? And the car Hanna killed him in?
But the one thing that holds me back is Monas character development. I feel like her character changed a lot and they showed us that completely in Season 5 when Alison first returned to Rosewood. Mona didn't hide behind the A mask anymore. She came right out as Mona and challenged Alison face to face, no mask. She confronted Alison and kept going after her! I felt like those were big moments for Mona. But I can see it going either way.
I really liked someone else's theory that Mona killed charolette but isn't AD, which could definitely be the case as well. I love these theories!
I completely agree that Mona is A.D especially after the last few episodes.
Going way back in the episode when she is outed as A she said something along the lines of "this is all part of the plan."
Also, in the episode where Mona gets the windshield fixed, she said "I got it fixed at a place that doesn't ask questions" which got me thinking about when the girls went to a garage and asked about whether they had seen Jenna and the mechanic said "that's not her" if it was a man, surely he wouldn't of specified the gender idk.
I'm torn between Mona being good and bad too, as she is definitely one of my favourite characters but there's so much evidence that would add up to Mona being A.D, I could go on and on with my theory. Although, if it's not her I'm starting to think it definitely could be Lucas.
I would just like to add that we don't know for certain where Ezra was. Correct me if I'm wrong, he was never shown being with Nicole either in Colombia or at the hospital? I'm not convinced he has been with her the entire time.
Let's just say it like this: I'm not 100% sure Mona is A.D. because the Twincer-clues are also getting stronger and stronger, BUT.. with what is happening in the last few episodes reminds me a lot of what I wrote down in this theory.
